as for the vocals....yeah what everyone else said. they suck

its not just the vocals that suck. it the bassist, guitar player, drummer, songs, riffs, talent, performance, venue, crowd, wacky flailing arm inflatable tube looking dancer kids etc. etc..... there was really just nothing good about anything in any of those videos.

even if i liked shitty tough guy metalcore or whatever this was an attempt at, i'd still hate it cause it's really that bad.

Agreed, but expanding the critique; this'll sound harsh but it is a critique not criticism:

Its shitty because its completely unremarkable. Not only are you screaming in a very monotone style, but your choice of vocal rhythms is also completely generic. You're not so much screaming as just yelling into the mic. And unfortunately, failing at screaming and sounding like this is a completely unremarkable event also. I've heard dozens of bands where the vocalist sounds almost exactly like you.

At the very least you need to incorporate low and high screams, and probably develop a few more particular screaming styles/accents/sound shapes. Mix and match for particular moments in each song. And for fuck's sake turn around, act like you're glad to be playing a show and demonstrate some goddamn stage presence. Even if there's only 5 people there and no one is into you act like its the last show you'll ever play. Tell your bandmates to do the same.

As for vocals, I wish people spent a lot more time trying to sound DIFFERENT, and less time doing the same old thing. Even in the old days, Choke did not sound like Jimmy G, nor Lou from SOIA. Find your own fucking voice and stop being proud to sound like every other shmuck on the bill.

For myself, my vocals in Pillory (to me) are some of the most grating, tired-pirate sounding crap I've ever heard. But at least they sounded like ME, and not ME trying to sound like so-and-so.

I know what your saying about trying to sound like everyone else but honestly, Thats just how it comes out. I never intended to sound like anyone. Someone did bring up a good point about mixing it up with the style and not be so monotoned. Like I don't even talk to these guys anymore this was the only show we played. I was just looking for a basis of how I actually sound cause clearly you'll critize yourself more than others. I mean I have a blast playing shows. Like I don't wanna get big off it. I'm just trying to have a good time.

I'm not talking about monotony, or vocal patterns. I'm talking about just yelling in general. If I walk up to you and knock you on your ass, is that what you'll sound like? Do you get all cookie monster fake gravelly yelling?

When you say it's just how it comes out, that's the key to originality. And it's something you'll work a long time with. There's a filter you need to create that weeds out your true inspiration and ideas, and blocks all the other regurgitated crap that you've already heard 1000 times.

I'm not against screaming. If you're mad, scream. But scream like YOU scream, stop trying to sound tougher, meaner, louder, more distorted, or whatever the heck is actually going through your mind when you're yelping like that.

I'm gonna go on a tangent. I'd like to ask vocalists/screamers - do you try to scream as loudly as possible, or control the volume and get better growl/raspy sound? This came up during recording, engineer said that a lot of death metal singers actually sing at very low volumes compared to "normal" singing. Obviously some singers sing loud, some not, I'm just curious if there's a preference or advantages with one or the other.
