New site? Maybe some day.
I am more than happy to put in $50 for my band to be on this and for it to actually happen.
Let's just do it. |
In B4 jockeying for scene position |
I wouldn't mind being on Vol. 2. But...we know how these things go. |
I know man, let's do it!
It's like all new bands in "the scene" |
scaphism is nearing scene birth... |
If everyone chips in I can have the layout and pressing done, someone needs to do a great mastering job this time.
SOON...
all new bands indeed. pretty sure only 3 bands from the first one are still active today.
i have been thinking about doing this for a while. too much bitching and stupid shit i didn't want to deal with last time i tried. everyone seems to have an idea to make shit better but no idea how to actually make it happen. ie 2 disc set w dvd and stuff. neat idea but how we gonna pay for it?
biggest problem last time was poor recordings from most bands and no money for mastering. Was thinking about getting less cpoies made and using the extra $ for mastering but the difference in price between 500 and 1000 copies is after set up charges and all isn't really that much. probly not enough for mastering. Dont think we need 1000 copies anyways unless passing them out at another metal fest or the NEDF.
if there are enough bands interested in throwing down a few bucks to get a nice comp made i'll do whatever to help organize it again. but i have no real vested interest in the matter since i have no band and do not want to make a penny off of it. maybe if i wanted to sign bands to aural defecation records it would be cool. maybe i'll make it a "real" record label someday and actually sign a band. |
If Graveside isn't on it, I want no part of this. |
If Saint to Sinner isn't on it, I want no part of this. |
fixed |
Pfft - no way a huge band like Saints to Sinners would want to be on a comp with a bunch of fat grindcore kids. They're a national, bra. A FUCKIN' NATIONAL. |
Hey Josh, is Magical Mystical Mike home? |
Fuck you Tom! Was going to do that! |
i think mike is working a lunch shift and will be home soon. |
I'ma stop by around 5. If he doesn't show we can rock out with Lego Star Wars. |
Is Albany close enough to NE for my new band to get on? I understand if not. |
someone needs to do a great mastering job this time. |
Get a hold of me. I know a dude in Chicago who does great work, for very affordable rates. |
If 25 or so bands are on it (easy enough to fit all the music on one disc if there is a song length cap, which shouldn't be a huge problem for most bands) and chip in $50-$75, everything could be paid for. Icon Omnimedia has some really good pressing rates, options and deals/sales; 1000 CDs could easily be pressed for anywhere between $900 and $1200 depending on how fancy you'd want to get (e.g. only do full color outside, B & W inside, half of the pressing not in packaging for easy distribution/mailing, only one or two colors on the CD itself, etc.).
I'd be willing to do free artwork for this, if it does happen.
Also, all copies should be split up evenly between all bands and whoever else provides services for it. Just my 2 cents. |
split up evenly between all bands and whoever |
So they can sit in closets and not be distributed by lazy fucks?
It should be given away free, with a folded traycard inside so people can put them in jewel cases.
I would hope bands would give them out for free; they SHOULD be free. I guess I wasn't taking human nature into consideration.
Either way, bands should definitely get a hefty share since bands should be paying for it (in my opinion). If a label is paying for it, or at least most of it, then that would change things. |
this time only quality recordings should be accepted. |
My .02 cents.
Return to the Pit is a MULTIMEDIA experience. This board is just as much about Aaron's pictures as it is about the bands. Instead of trying to come up with the high cost of duping/mastering/distributing a CD, why not create a multimedia presentation involving local band tracks, local artist (markfuckingrichards, Marcos who did art for the last comp, etc...), Photos of the bands from Rev and Carina, Throw in a cheesy flash video or whatever bands might have to offer. Package it all together, and sell it as a direct download, or on removable media like an SD card or USB drive.
Just an idea. |
I like the multimedia expirience idea but......its too involved to just hand out at a show. it requires a different sort of "advertising" to get people to download it. if they are already online downloading the multimedia package why not just go to rttp and look at aarons pics and then to the bands myspace page. i think the comp idea is just as much about shoving in the face of a newb in the local metal scene and getting them to check out this site and those bands in the first place as it is to have a nice comp of new england metal.....how many job for a cowboy fans would love boarcorpse or sexcrement but do not even know they exist?
yes blue and everyone else.....better recordings. and mastering too.
MFR (and anyone else who might care)...icon is where the last one was pressed up at. awesome guys. fast turnaround. easy to work with. we got 1000 copies plus the 10% overrun that they do. 1096 copies in all. full color outside. b&w inside. shrink wrapped jewel cases. shipped. for around $1100. 20 bands plus 3 sponsors = $1150 the extra $50 and a a little more out of pocket went towards shipping cd's to bands.
looks like at least 5 bands are already interested. |
I guaran-damn-tee that DS can contribute a better track than last time. What sort of time frame would we be looking at? |
Composted will be recording a new promo somewhat soonish, so we'd definitely be down. Even if we have to put a song on it from our EP, we'll be able to contribute. |
I'm sure Wreckoning would be down. We're only kinda pissed though. |
Hivesmasher has nothing to be pissed about, but would probably be down for something like this. |
I'd be willing to chip in money to have Codso sing Blue Velvet. |
The Summoned wants on plzkthnx |
We'd definitely do it. Now, would it be bad form to use a track from the demo we just put out? Our would we record something else? And another point, I'd be willing to take responsibility for handing some of these out at shows, i love talking to people and i have no problem interrupting people with a disc in their face.
And as further feedback on Icon, we just went through them. We did all the printing ourselves, and just had the actual cd done professionally. It cost us 525 for 1000 (they sent 1100) with shipping. They were quick, and the stuff looks perfect. I would use them again for sure. |
for rlz. anyone else care to do this? re reading the thread it looks like 8 maybe 9 bands so far. |
I'll let you know after Saturday. |
I feel like To The Wolves would be down, I'll ask |
Scaphism is down for sure. We can either throw on one of the songs from the myspace or preferably one of the new tunes that will be recorded in the coming month or so. |
No way. Tell them to stop bein gay. From me and dizzle. |
well i just got a wedding invitation from jeff... i'll forward your concerns |
