for alot of money. I crashed into an old guy (he was driving a Sonoma) 2 and half years ago on RT.109 in Milford. He hired a lawyer who's on TV. Anyone else been through something like this before???

If you had no auto insurance he can sue you, but otherwise there is no case. Well, you can technically sue just about anyone for anything, but if you had insurance than tell them you'll see them in court. Those shady ass lawyers take cases in hopes of getting a settlement. They will offer to settle for so much. You pay and feel like you have dodged a bullet, the lawyer takes half the settlement and everyone goes on their merry way. Meanwhile you've paid money you do not owe, the old man feels like he has received some big chunk of change and the the only person that really wins is the lawyer.

Tell them you'll see them in court. It will probably never make it to court unless as I earlier stated you have no insurance. People pay for insurance for just this reason, so that every jerkoff in the world can't take you to court. The lawyer is playing the percentages and figures that you will be willing to settle. The last thing they want is to go to court and lose money for representing someone for free.

All police are trained to shoot to kill whenever they have to draw their guns. this is because dead men can't sue.

Judge Judy rules.

True, true, but he did not make it clear whether he was driving his own vehicle or not or whether he had insurance and it ran out or any other long list of of scenarios.

Yes I had/have insurance. I have a feeling the whole thing will blow over. Just kinda bummerish opening up a letter like that.

toggletoggle post by ArrowHead nli at Aug 1,2006 10:42pm
Get a consult with an attourney. Do not respond to the letter or act on it in any way until you do. Despite what everyone in this thread said, you could very easily hold liabilities in the event that the injury coverage in your insurance plan did not cover the full amount of any injury this guy is claiming. Added to that trumped up claims of lost wages and other bullshit this guy could easily have the basis of a claim. If that's the case, their response to "I'll see you in court" will be, "Yes, you will."

Better to pay $500 for a consult or single session with a lawyer than having to pay the full amount of a settlement.

if you had any balls you'd burn the court house down the day of trial after nailing the doors closed and then go rape the old man and the lawyers wives/children

Davefrom the grave: Police don't shoot to kill, they shoot to stop the action that caused them to draw thier gun and shoot in the first place. They aim for the center of available mass because it is easier to hit and less chance of a miss.

josh, if the accident wasn't bad then you shouldn't have much of a problem. if he didn't file an insurance claim at the time then he's a retard and most likely no one will ever take him seriously. if there are no pictures or proof that you even hit him, he's probably shooting himself in the foot. we'll have to talk tonight at band practice.

*Josh is sitting in his plush office smoking a cigar*
Secretary: Josh, that old man you ran over, and crippled called again.
Josh: *Puffs arrogantly on his cigar* What does that old coot want? Probably wants some sort of a handout. Send that old bastard a beaded car seat cover, and a get well card and tell him to kiss my ass!
Secretary: Well sir, he called to say he's changing lawyers.
Josh: Haw Haw... Oh really. *leans back in his chair*
Secretary: Yes, he's being represented by the law offices of Iannella and Mummalo.
Josh: *Panics and cartoonishly falls backward in his chair* ...LET'S SETTLE THIS ONE!

Here' some more information for you.

Auto insurers do not have to pay medical bills in excess of $2,000 if the injured person does not stay within his health insurance plan when he is able to. If a person injured in an auto accident decides to see a doctor, therapist, chiropractor, etc. who is outside of his health plan, and the plan offers such medical services, then his auto insurer may not have to cover the charges (in excess of $2000).

Automobile insurance laws in Massachusetts require the owner of a vehicle to have a certain amount of liability insurance on the vehicle.M.G.L. Ch. 90, § 34O. Liability insurance provides compensation to another person in the event that you cause an accident and are found to be liable to that person for damages. The minimum amount of coverage required by law is $20,000.00 M.G.L. Ch 90, § 34A, but you can purchase higher amounts of liability insurance in order to protect your personal assets against the risk of higher damages being awarded against you in the event you cause another serious injuries.
