New site? Maybe some day.
|
WHAT!!! for who? There had better be 3 of 'em!!!! |
|
I don't even care anymore. Football's about to start! |
|
its a 4 team trade and the details haven't been announced yet, they're waiting for the commissioner to ok it first |
|
From ESPN.com:
The Red Sox dealt their shortstop to the Cubs today in a four-team blockbuster trade, getting Orlando Cabrera of the Expos and Doug Mientkiewicz of the Twins in return.
That seems to be the deal. They're also expecting Lowe to go to Minnesota. |
|
this just ruined my day. now, if you'll pardon me, i've gotta go ruin my dad's day... |
|
"AAAWWWSHIT!!!" -scott's dad |
|
It dosent matter. We're never gonna win. |
|
That's true. I stopped caring. If they win a game I get excited, but if they don't oh well. |
|
The trade makes a little sense. Nomar fucked his achilles up again, so they needed a reliable SS, and with Pokey on the dl, I would rather Cabrera than that other douche they just picked up.
And Beltran went the Expos. |
|
I go to a game a year, get a new hat and thats about it. Ive done it every year of my life, but I dont ever get too too into it because we will NEVER win. |
|
EEI is really depressing right now |
|
I am very saddened by the trade, and ultimately, I don't think we got enough. BUT, Doug Mientkiewicz is an awesome first baseman that will make us so much better defensively, and Orlando Cabrera is another gold glove player and one of the best SS in the National League. Both are having down years, but defensively we went from being horrid to above average. We'll see how it works out, but for now I am just sad that Nomar is gone.
The Beltran that went to the Expos is not THAT Beltran. |
|
JayTUS said:

That sucks.
|
|
They got Francis Beltran, their future closer. He's at AAA. |
|
Oh. I was hoping Carlos got stuck in Montreal. |
|
The plan on trading Nomar is to get Randy Johnson from Arizona...that is why they traded him...and he's not having a good post-season last year and season this year...they will get Randy Johnson....Mark my words...Randy and Curt Schilling are best pals....watch...just watch... |
|
Ah, no. Trade deadline is closed. No more trades until after the season. The Big Unit was going to go to the Dodgers, but they couldn't reach a deal. |

It was a joke Brandon. They actually are pretty good friends, they aren't A-Rod and Jeter, but they are friends.
Okay Moran...you're right again..... |
|
nomar was going to walk at the end of the year anyway. at least we got something for him this way |

I always read that they don't like each other. Thats all.
|
|
this is a beautiful thing. nomah is a cry baby pre madonna and he isn't a team player. most of all he wasn't happy with being in boston and was poison in the dugout and in the clubhouse. we pay this cocksucker to win us the championship. every time we get to the playoffs, he chokes and doesn't perform up to par at all when we need him most. Damon is their best player anyways. i'd feel different if nomar shaved his head last year in the playoffs. |

moran said: Ah, no. Trade deadline is closed. No more trades until after the season. The Big Unit was going to go to the Dodgers, but they couldn't reach a deal. |
Wrong. Trades can still be made until August 31st but teams can block it. Basically the players have to clear waivers first... |
|
I know nothing and even I know this was a dumb move. |
|
wow
a lot of people into sports on here |
|
trades cant be made till august 31
the deadline is todat
an excellant move by the sox...........excellant.......i think they made out
but nomah................nomah.................

trade varitek.com |
|
no way man, varitek is the heart of that team!
what bothers me most about boston sports right now is that the bruins only have Gill and Sampsonov signed to the team so far.
i want to see the cannons at nicols field too. |
|
GILL?
GILL?
i dont give a fuck.....
the bruins are doing whats right.......
they had like half the team up for contract negotitians this year
with a possible lockout...........and SALARY CAP coming to the NHL
they have been smart.......and not gottin them self into any high priced deals(except for gill.........argubley the worst player in the league.....the guy is a slug.......and sucks asshole)
the B's have cemented these playes for next year......thornton,samsonov,bergeron,raycroft,gonchar
you can build a stanley cup championship around that |
|
hahaha, has anyone seen Wade Boggs on the hair replacement commercial? |
|

Best ad ever. I got a pop-up one time with his gorgeous mug on it.
But, the more I think about it, its a good trade. As much as I liked the guy, his heart wasn't here. So why let him walk in October, when we can improve ourselves. the only SS better than him are Jeter, A-Rod, Pokey, and Tejeda, and with the exception of Pokey, they are unattainable. So now we are out a, as of recentley, whiney, injury prone, alright SS. And in return we get an infeild with three gold gloves. I kinda like it. |

First:
http://rangers.siegler.net/roster/rosterrules.html
4. WAIVERS
A waiver on a Major League Player is defined as "...a permission granted for certain assignments of player contracts or for the unconditional release of a Major League player..."
A Major League Player placed on waivers will have "cleared waivers" if after three business days following waivers have been requested he has not been claimed by another team. If a player "clears waivers", the team has secured waivers on that player for the rest of the waiver period.
A team can do one of three things with a player once he has cleared waivers. They can send him to the minors, for veteran players with the consent of the player, they can release him, making him available to other teams, or they can trade him to another team, regardless of whether or not the trading deadline has passed. In order for a team to trade a player past the July 31st trading deadline, he must have first cleared waivers.
If a player placed on waivers is claimed by another team, the club requesting waivers may withdraw the waiver request. If the club doesn't withdraw the waiver request, the player's contract is assigned based on certain criteria. If only one club claims the player, that club is awarded the player. If more than one club in the same league makes claims, the club currently lower in the standings gets the player. If the claim is made during the first 30 days of the season, the previous season's standings are used to determine who gets the player. If clubs in both leagues claim the player, the player will always go to the club in the same league as the club requesting waivers. " |
And this would just be the first article I saw explaining the rule:

Clearing waivers complicates post-deadline trades
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
By Mel Antonen
USA TODAY
Baseball's trade deadline has come and gone, but that doesn't prevent a team from making a trade during August. It's just tougher to do.
Wednesday was sort of a deadline. Now, a player involved in a deal has to clear waivers, a process that allows a team to claim players and block trades to contending teams.
“If you wanted for sure to make a deal, you needed to make a move by now,” Detroit Tigers general manager Dave Dombrowski said
|
And if those don't work for you, do a simple google search on the subject. Here, I'll make it easy for you:
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&ie=UTF-8&q=trade+deadline+waivers+rule
I've forgotten more about baseball then you will ever know. Maybe YOU should know what the fuck you are talking about first.

While I am at it, here are some more pages for you to check out to see how FUCKING WRONG you are:
http://kmbumb.people.wm.edu/glossary.html
I liked this quote :
Trading Deadline: There are two trading deadlines in baseball, July 31 and August 31. July 31 (at 4 PM EDT) is the last day teams can make a trade without having to pass a player through waivers until 5 PM on the day after the scheduled end of the regular season. This results in most of the biggest trades being made at that time. By August 31 at midnight, teams must set their postseason rosters. By this time, most teams know whether or not they have a shot at the playoffs. Teams who are out of the race will put some of their more expensive players on the block sometimes and offer them in trades. Role players often get moved so they can be pinch-runners, pinch-hitters, or utility players for playoff teams; however, cheap players are often claimed on waivers, and, so, most of this type are moved before July 31. |

Notice what it says for August 31st ;)

This article is really good and really dumbs it down for people like yourself that don't have a clue:

I could keep going. I accept appologies. |
|
Who fucking cares about Nomar!! These shitheads make millions of dollars to play a game!! The Red Sox will always be inferior to the Yankess. And by the way,the Yankees "dont" suck |
|
sooner or later the yanks will go to shit. then boston may just be able to be better |
|
i have a friend who is loves the red sox more than anything, i was with him when he first heard this..... the poor kid had tears in his eyes
|
|
Yankees will never go to shit because they are the highest grossing team in professional sports playing in the biggest market in the world. They make an insane amount of money, and I can't blame George for playing with it. Fuck owners like Carl Pohlad in Minnesotta who have shitloads of money and makes shitloads of money off of the Twins and doesn't reinvest it. Sure, he's entitled to run the team the way he wants, but the Twins could easily be the best team in MLB BY FAR if they were able to keep half the players they developed that they couldn't afford. He rapes his fans and that's bullshit.
George is the exact opposite though, he overpays for everyone and has thus driven the price up on marginal players and really made salaries as unrealistic as they are. That is why I have a problem with him.
Sox are a better team today then they were yesterday, there is no doubt about it. It just kind of stings a little to see Nomar go, and realize that we didn't get enough for him. But in the end, I guess Orlando Cabrera and Doug Mientkiewicz are better than the two draft picks we would have gotten if/when he left as a free agent... |
|
the sox can beat the yanks in a 7 game series any week of the year. that's what it all comes down to. in fact they have a better advantage because of their pitching. |
|
I think Esteban Loaiza is a step down from Jose Contreras. They both have there up and down sides but when it comes down to it, I'd take Contreras 9 times out of 10. I hate to say it, but the Yanks are vulnerable. Their bullpen is starting to fall apart because they are overworked and their starting pitching has been shotty. If Giambi can't come back, they are in some trouble, and it'll be hard for them to get anyone through waivers (because you know, trades can still be made, and teams with higher priority can block them) because they have the best record in the league and they have last dibs. Their inability to make a trade yesterday will come back to haunt them. Mark that down. |
|
Wow. Now that he is gone the truth comes out. Apparently he walked into the trainers office a few days ago and said he'd need three or four days off to rest his heal and that he might need to go on the DL in late August to rest up for the postseason. Now, if that's not bullshit enough, Larry Luccino, one of the owners of the Red Sox, called Nomar about a half hour before the trade deadline to let him know he was about to be traded, but in fairness to the Cubs he asked him point blank "are you healthy?" Nomar's answer? "I am now."
Fuck you Nomar. We all loved you as a player, probably just as much as any other player that has ever worn the uniform. What a way to end it. I think these facts being made public is going to shift a lot of fan's feelings for him. That's BS.
PS - Nice home run in your first at bat Orlando Cabrera |

Seriously, that can't happen!!!! ESPN needs to know what the hell they are talking about before they write stories like that. |
