Any guitar players suffer from this here??? My tendons have been acting up lately, IT FUCKING HURTS BAD! I started wearing my brace and been useing ice again. It hurts now and i have band practice tonight. Aleave only does so much. I got my guitar allmost as high on my body as the fucking beatles did. I gotta start writting less painfull riffs. Last time this happened i had a hard cast for 2 weeks, and had to stop playing for about 2 months,1 yr of physical therapy, lots of ice, i swear i still dont play like i once did.

ahh man, that fuckin sucks....

i'm sure you probably already do, but do hand / wrists stretch's all the time, as well as massaging your own hands... that's what I do and my pain issues have gone away. I'm also on the computer a lot too so....

hey, can you AIM me?

does anoxia have any mp3's on the web?

the guitar player for Dawn Floods The Distance has tendonitis and the doctor he goes to says it's from his nose ring. Can you believe that? then they prescribed over 100 dollars worth of vitamins.

I injured my wrists at my job and that's why I haven't gone back...they're better now, but it was fucking lame to have achey wrists while touring...

I have tendonitis in my knee

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Jul 30,2004 10:17am
I broke my right arm when I was 10 and since then I've had nerve damage there.
if I arm-wrestle with it, it's basically useless and painful for a week. when I get done with the gf, I can't dittle her pooty with my right hand much at all.. if I do, my wrist freaking kills while trying.
though after all the years of coding, the left wrist is aching a bit now.

"lately", my wrists have been fine though, you know why? it's all about holding a 3lb camera for 4 hours at odd angles a few times a week. since I started doing that I've been fine. though when I do fests, they tend to hurt afterwards.

hand streaches and a hot towlel on your arm befor you play can help

heres an excersize i used to do to streach my pretting tendons

put your arm out in front of you put palm up (as if you were asking for change) take other hand and grip fingers of the out streached hand pull down slightly itgonna hurt a little but if it excrusiating ease off a little do this a few times a day

my right wrist is fucked. in a moshpit when i was 16 my arm got caught between two kids running in opposite directions and i tore a tendon. the tendon leaked out juice like marrow or something and when it got into the blood stream it calcifies into a hard rock like device. this thing gets in the way of the bones in my wrist and makes them push on the nerves and cause alot of pain. when i aggravate the injury the only way to fix it is to slam my wrist on a table and try to break the calcified thing.

toggletoggle post by subjugate   at Jul 30,2004 10:57am
another one is lock your fingers together as if to crack your knuckles now streach out your hands away from you with your knuckles facing you go as far as you can with out haveing excruciating pain

i can touch my elbows behind my back and aaron said that's a rare thing so he asks me to do it once in a while

toggletoggle post by Josh_hates_you  at Jul 30,2004 11:03am
if your elbows are touching behind your back i would imagine your breasts would be sticking way out.

my wrists are always killing me. when it gets really bad ill fill the bathtub with hot water and soak my arms in it while doing basically the same stretches that subjugate suggested. Also hold your arm out in front of you with your palm facing up and make a fist. now pull your fist up towards you with your other hand so that it stretches the tentons on the upper part of your forearm. i also massage my hands wrists and forearms alot. its always good to make a point of stretching before and after you play.

handinjury: I play guitar and i have tendonitis too. it's a bitch. it comes and goes but when i do have it, it stays for about 3 weeks. There is just about absolutely nothing you can do to prevenet tendonitis. Muscle relaxers and anti inflamatories just help the pain. the only thing that i started doing that helps a bit is strengthening my wrist/forearms. try getting a pair of those hand grips. i keep one in my car. helps with the road rage too.

toggletoggle post by -l-invertedcorpse-l- at Jul 30,2004 11:33am
you wanna do what i suggested when you don't have the pain of course.

No mp3's yet , im working on that. But the cd comes out Aug 20th.

Thanks guys for all your input. Like i said ive done about a yr of P.E. So i done similar exercise's. Ice and the shock therapy seems to be the only thing that really works over the past 3.5 yrs. Massageing it hurts like a bitch, so i allways stayed away from that. Anoxia is fucking doomed, if this shit goes back to like the past im hanging up fretboard skills(11 yrs down the shitter). And that would be my second leave from the band.

I have that shit, too, on and off -- usually depends on weather (sucks getting old). I think mine is not only from guitar, but from psycho lifting at the gym. Inverted Corpse's suggestion about strenthening the area is a good one. Try high reps with a light hand grip and also tricep dips help too. High reps/low weight will help repair as well as strengthen.

I notice that anything that makes me "tense" causes them to hurt..
like if I'm under a lot of stress.. or I take too much day time cold medicine.

you might have carpul tunnel, alot of guitarist get that, it sucks donkey balls

toggletoggle post by 3rd_Knuckle at Jul 30,2004 11:04pm
ive had tendonitis in my right elbow for years. ive tried everything my dr. and my friends have suggested, and still it just comes and goes whenever the hell it wants to, regardless of what i do. i have learned to just 'think past it' and now to me its simply part of the experience of playing music.
trust me, i'm not trying to sound like a tough guy or a torured artiste pussy, it still fuckin' kills bt if nothing works, nothing works
-oh and lots of beers help

toggletoggle post by Terence   at Jul 31,2004 1:22am
I have severe carpel tunnel, I do all sorts of stretches and excersizes for it. Its a pain in the bum.

toggletoggle post by handinjury at Jul 31,2004 9:07am
Practice went pretty smoothly festerday, and surprisinglly we did two sets. I took a vicodin for the 2nd set. wearing the brace at work diffentally helps, fuck those doctors that say surgery.

toggletoggle post by subjugate   at Aug 2,2004 6:59pm
i'm actually gonna be destroying my hand by playing my back up guitar with the D'Addario 014 strings but live i'm gonna use the 013's

i do hope your hand gets better

toggletoggle post by handinjury at Aug 2,2004 7:39pm
i use d'addrio 13-56's (w/wound G) tuned to b.

Where do you guys have the most pain???? my tendonitis is right behind my left thumb/wrist area and the pain is centralized there then it will shoot up my forearm. its unpossible not to open my left thumb up with a guitar neck between thumb and fingers. My ideal non pain sanerio would be to glue my thumb to my index finger, and thats not gonna happen.
i got ice on it right now actually.

toggletoggle post by envelopeddisfiguration at Aug 2,2004 10:23pm
I had tendonitis for a few months last year it eventually went away from wearing I brace I never stopped playing..... I work masonry now and do alot of heavy lifting and physical work and my hands sometimes go numb while playing its as if they fall asleep its only my hands too, I asked my doctor about it and he said its from all the stress my back has had and I might have a pinched nerve which will eventually get use to the physical anguish. When this happens my left hand is fine while my picking hand is not as precise as it normally is, hard to get a feel of the pick and the top of my index always makes its way onto the strings, I play really low on the pick as it is becuase I do alot of harmonics but anyhow, thats my story

same here we tune to B flat

my pain is in my right elbow, on the outside, like where you'd elbow somebody with, the point of it. and it hurts the worst when im holding something in my hand (like a pick?!) or writing.

toggletoggle post by MyDeadDoll   at Aug 3,2004 3:06am
i think morkul had tendenitis or some shit... he had to wear a brace for a while to keep the thumb stable and then ended up getting cortisone shots. apparently they're very painful. i think i remember something about having recurring symptons like this and if the shots/pain killers/stretches don't help, they recommend surgery. i dunno tho... my mom has a fucked up wrist right now from work and hers is in a brace 'til she goes back to the doctor. if i find out anything fascinating from her, i'll let you know. 'til then, hope everyone's wrists don't hurt too bad. =)

toggletoggle post by handinjury at Aug 3,2004 7:14am
I had a cortizone shot, then they put a cast on me. Man it hurt so fucking bad i wanted to rip the cast off.

i just found out that i have mild tendenitis today. it hurts in the centrl of my wrist on my left hand. i'm a jazz guitar major and a freshmen in college. i'm kinda freaked by the news. i hope it doesn't as bad as some of you other guys

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Oct 1,2004 4:24am
my wrists have been killing lately... I thnk it was using carina's "heavy" lens too much, but i'm not positive.

sucks cause they were fine for 2+ years.
I'm hoping they get better, but I'm thinking of getting a brace for when I sleep. I get keeping them straight while sleeping really helps. though it's really weird... cause they just *bang* and started to hurt all of a sudden.
