New site? Maybe some day.

Should have died out in 1995. |
i thought it was long dead. |
i thought it was long dead. |
yea really. I used to love NP back in the diz nizzle but I haven't seen or heard anything from them in ages. |
i loved when they had walk throughs screen for screen to help you on hard ass games. |
That's sad, I had a subscription to Nintendo Power for about six or seven months back when I was in middle school. |

That's some accurate reporting. |
Ppfffftt. I still think that is the weakest 8/16 bit Zelda. |

Only watching Jim watch Gaucher play 3D Zelda and bitching about it is real. |
Meh, all Nintendo games are usually good. I've been anti-3d Zelda since I first red about 3D Zeldas.
Link to the Past is a great game, but I definitely prefer Link's Awakening and Zelda 1 (obviously) and Zelda 2 (such a unique game). |
Link's awakening on gameboy awl day, SON. |

the NES zelda games are BORING AS FUCK. |
I said
THE NES ZELDA GAMES ARE BORING AS FUCK. |
A Link to the Past and Link's Awakening are so far above the NES games it's not even funny. |
I SAID MOTORHEADS COVER OF 'LOUIE LOUIE' IS ANNOYING AS FUCK |
ONE MORE TIME
MY HEARING AID IS DYING |
I SAID 'SCARED STUPID' IS BY FAR THE BEST JIM VARNEY FILM |
OK OK GOTCHA NOW. IT REALLY IS. SO MANY TROLLS. |
Only having the copy of Dragon Warrior they gave away with OG Nintendo Power subscription is real. |
A Link to the Past and Link's Awakening are so far above the NES games it's not even funny. |
that's so true, and don't even lie jim, you were digging skyward sword (which i'm about %80 done with and much bigger game world than we thought) |
I'm not gonna lie. thats why I said Nintendo games are good. I just disagree on the dimensional aspect, Linktouros |
fair enough. i like new games and using my 3d hardware, but i still haven't played a better game than 2d super metroid. |
fair enough. i like new games and using my 3d hardware, but i still haven't played a better game than 2d super metroid. |
that's because it's an incredible game. much better than the original Metroid, although that's still a good 'un |
super metroid is better than metroid: FACT |
I CANNOT WAIT TO BE AN OLD MAN |
super metroid is better than metroid: FACT |
lol @ there even being an argument against this. |
Original Metroid is way better. |
Original Metroid is way better. |
I'd love to hear your argument as to why... |
Longer, bigger maze. Bleaker game. |
That's not an argument, because it isn't even true. If anything, the original metroid took longer only because you had to constantly back track to areas you'd already seen over and over, which is one of its biggest failings.
Super Metroid had weapon upgrades, better inventory and saving, much larger and more diverse world, control was better, a much more immersive and memorable story line, not to mention it used more than 3 colors and had one of the better soundtracks of the SNES. |
That was the beauty of the first. It was like a maze. Obviusly the second one was an upgrade in all facets of play, but a.) Much easier. b.) Not a direct sequel and c.) metroid II for gameboy blows both away. |
Essentially the same argument could be used for comparing the NES zelda games to A Link to the Past.
If you think the originals are superior because you have more memories of them than the newer ones than I understand completely, but there's no way you could sit down and play Metroid and Super Metroid back to back for the first time and tell me that you had better things to say about the former. |
I don't think Super Metroid was easier at all. Game could be unforgiving as hell. It might've been easier because the controls were more fluent and the gameplay was more refined, not to mention the fact that you would've been more used to that type of gameplay by the time the SNES came out than when the original came out (as in, fighting games nowadays seem easier because we've been playing similar games for years so we can just pick up and play instead of learning from scratch). |
super metroid was the game the developers wanted to make from the start. easier? debatable. better more immersive controls? absolutely. |
and i completely fail as a metroid fanboy for never playing metroid II for GB. |
Metroid II is excellent. It's like the first one, only with an actual save system, so you don't want to RIP YOUR OWN FACE OFF OF YOUR FACE every time you die. |
This thread made me bust out Super Metroid. I'm five minutes in and loving it. Game hasn't aged a day in 15 years. |
Sure, maybe nostalgia comes into play here. I sincerely think Metroid II is the best of the three, though. It was a dark fucking game.
I'll never forget playing Super Metroid on shrooms. THE WALLS BREATHE |
Ive never playes Metroid Prime or any of that garbage. |
I actually remember Metroid Prime being pretty good when I played it on my buddies gamecube, but I don't know enough about it to have much of an opinion. |
I don't understand the argument that game sequels on different platforms are superior than the originals. Mario64? Great game. Better than any of the NES ones? No way. |

I'm not trying to tell you you're wrong or anything, it's just like, my opinion man. I'm just saying, I defended the original Legend of Zelda my whole life, but when I picked it up recently I was BORED to tears, whereas I have beaten A Link to the Past probably 100 times in my life and it never gets old.
AOW is better anyway. |

Mario 3 > Super Mario Bros > Mario 64 |
the metroid prime series is awesome. they stand up to any great nintendo game. huge positive critical reception. they do capture the feel of metroid, but being first person shooter in addition to standard metroid adventure/exploration games they're not for everybody. |

that's why i still stand that it's my favorite game of all time. it's so damn fresh and still feels new. a link to the past aged just as well. |

Yea I mean, I at least remember Prime having all the elements of the Metroid games, with the exception of it being first person as opposed to side-scrolling.
I'm just extremely biased when it comes to the SNES. Best console ever. Period. Everyone can have their own opinion on the matter, but it will never even come close to changing mine. |
I think I guess youd have to look at a game when it came out. When the original Metroid came out people were blown away. My friend's dad hand drew maps of the game and them littered around their house.
When super metroid came out, everyone loved it for the same reasons, but it also went with the times. SNES waa a far superior system than NES and they utilized the technology. Both games are great, but I guess in FAIRNESS I WILL SAY BOTH ARE RESPECTABLE GAMES IN THEIR OWN RIGHT
BUT METROID II IS DARKER |
.metroid II for gameboy blows both away. |
Never played the nes versions but this game fucking ruled. |
Gameboy is the best system Nintendo ever produced. |
hand-drawn maps in video games, haven't needed those in 20 years. but LEGENDS OF GRIMROCK has a setting where you do need to keep a hand drawn grid map. great game btw! |
My two cents:
Super Metroid is not only the best Metroid game, it's the best video game of all time, period. I'm not gonna bother debating, I'm just going to state that opinion as fact and see what people make of it.
Metroid II for GB: don't bother, not that good.
I can't make heads or tails of the two Zelda games on NES, it's extremely unclear what you're even supposed to do in them on times. I got to the third dungeon in the first game but I just scratch my head thinking about it now.
I busted out A Link to the Past not long ago and have been working on it again. I haven't beaten that game in years so I'm forgetting some crucial information but it's still the shit.
Skyward Sword was fun as fuck, though not very challenging.
Never did like 3D Metroid. |
Lamp, you're never allowed to use my speaker cables or anything else again. |

THIS IS NOT UP FOR DEBATE |
Also, I played a Zelda game for the gamecube one time that was pretty good. Don't remember what it was called, but it was pretty dark for a Zelda game. I remember morphing into a wolf... |
that was twilight princess. great zelda game. |
i played one on gamecube too (i think it was game cube) and you used an actual little cross bow to play the game in certain parts.
I'm not imagining that right? |
like a physical crossbow in your hands? never happened. |
I SAID 'SCARED STUPID' IS BY FAR THE BEST JIM VARNEY FILM |
Agreed. |
it was for Wii!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
it was at a friends house and we were hammered:
Haha Link sort of looks like Andrew |
AVGN is best news and never gets old. Ark told me he's never seen. WATCHHHH. |
Haha Link sort of looks like Andrew |
<3 <3
i wish i was Link. |
Link doesn't look anything like Andrew. He's all skinny and girly cuz he's an elf. Andrew is all MAN(jew) |
also, this 'links crossbow training' game seems like it's more of just a flash game advertisement type deal than a real game. |
ok i'm watching it now. yes this is great. oh the nintendo power days. |
shit, watching avgn, i remember almost every single magazine he pulls out. |

I've seen every single AVGN so many times now haha. I have the dvds. Hadn't even heard of it til like two or three years ago though. |
SORRY, I'M GOING DEAF

hbabahhahaahah i'm watching the batman one and losing my coffee |
hbabahhahaahah i'm watching the batman one and losing my coffee |
I like the batman ones but the kid who plays the joker in the second one gets reeeeeeally annoying after a while (he's also in tons of other videos, like the Star Trek one as a Klingon.) |
