Varg's favourite tracks from his two first albums "Burzum" and "Det Som Engang Var" recorded in 2010 the way he originally intended!!

- "From the Depths of Darkness" is a re-recording of tracks from the first two albums, "Burzum" and "Det Som Engang Var"
- Inspired by the recording of "Belus" and in the middle of the process of writing "Fallen" Varg went into the studio in March 2010 and re-recorded a selected number of tracks from the early days of Burzum.
- The result is a hard hitting and great sounding collection of tracks sounding the way Varg wanted the tracks to sound and to be heard by his dedicated fans and supporters.
- It's an album that will cement the legacy of Burzum and that is dedicated to Pytten for his gratitude and perseverance in relation to Burzum.
- Burzum says of the new album: "From the Depths of Darkness was recorded and decided to be released because I always meant that the original recordings didn't do justice to the music, and I wanted to hear the tracks as they were intended by me back in 1991 and 1992, when these tracks were made, and to share this with those interested."

- Recorded at Grieghallen Studios March 2010.

I don't even think I want to hear this.

toggletoggle post by dyingmuse   at Oct 26,2011 10:49pm
didn't this fucking guy go on record patting himself on the back for having necro production? Then he Re makes them to sound better? What am I missing here? Maybe he finally entered a Radio Shack and found the most Uber of Mics to record the stuff under a full moon even more low - fi like it was supposed to be.

toggletoggle post by burnsy at Oct 26,2011 10:56pm
Yeah either that or he can finally afford the sound for which he's been looking.

toggletoggle post by dyingmuse   at Oct 26,2011 10:58pm
Well, a mic at radio shack is like 10 bucks. A analog tape recorder nowadays is like 50 bucks...full moon? priceless

toggletoggle post by MikeOvDcrptde at Oct 26,2011 10:59pm
I don't know. His earlier albums were raw but they had plenty of clarity, compared to, say, Ildjarn. I see no point in him trying to re-record these particular songs because they won't possess the same feeling as the originals. He was at a different place in his life back then, and his mindset and age most certainly contributed to the intensity and emotion put forth in his songwriting.

toggletoggle post by arilliusbm  at Oct 26,2011 11:01pm
Sometimes I agree with Mike way too much.

"Didn't do justice to the music"? Could have fooled me.

haha. Yeah. Although I'm not sure if radioshack had made it's way to Norway '91.

Burzum is one of the few bands where I can appreciate the shitty production given the intensity of the tunes but I have no problem with him giving it another go, especially cuz I thought Fallen came out great.

toggletoggle post by goatcatalyst   at Oct 27,2011 12:21am
Looking forward to hearing this. Love "Fallen"

I thought Belus was great.

toggletoggle post by frankovhell at Oct 27,2011 4:08am
Looking forward to stealing this off the internet because the originals are much better and i already bought cd's and Lps years ago. Sorry varg. Curiousity will mak me check this out though.

toggletoggle post by Yeti at Oct 27,2011 7:27am
DO NOT WANT. what the fuck is this shit? perhaps he should refer to a similar attempt that resulted in abysmal failure called STORMBLAST. you cannot have these songs without the vocal style, and there is no way he can do that again. i love Fallen and Belus, but this is unacceptable.

toggletoggle post by Yeti at Oct 27,2011 7:28am
i thought he wanted them to sound horrible? wasn't that the intention? ugh, VARG I AM DISAPPOINT.

toggletoggle post by AndrewBastard  at Oct 27,2011 8:20am
I will listen to these...

I bet this leads to him doing LIVE GIGS...of these songs; and these songs like will sound like these new recorded versions.

MDF 2013?

Interested in hearing Key to the Gate with his weakass vocals now.

toggletoggle post by BSV at Oct 27,2011 11:00am
kinda anxious for this to leak! the new stuff sounds great. banging out 3 albums in 3 years is no joke.

yeah, this album will probably be full of whispers, on the other hand i like the sound of the last two albums.

toggletoggle post by arktouros at Oct 27,2011 11:41am
whatever. the cover is awesome.

toggletoggle post by AndrewBastard  at Oct 27,2011 11:44am
same dude as Det Som I assume..maybe the same piece?

toggletoggle post by goatcatalyst   at Oct 27,2011 12:00pm
He's been using the same Dungeons and Dragons book cover for a few of his albums, usually showing a particular detail... "Burzum", Det Som..." and now this one.

And even if he did decide to start doing live gigs (my money is on this never happening), there is no way in the Blessed Virgin's pristine touch hole that he would ever be allowed into the US

toggletoggle post by AndrewBastard  at Oct 27,2011 12:09pm
haha yeah true...

imagine floods of fans going to see a convicted murderer live...

although Nodveidt didnt seem to have any issues with that that I know of?

so do i. i think they are amazing. however i just can't accept that the old and new sounds belong together. WRITE NEW MATERIAL AND LEAVE THE OLD STUFF ALONE.

I don't think Dissection came to the US after he was released. I don't know how those Euros work with heavy convictions

toggletoggle post by Yeti at Oct 27,2011 1:28pm
they were supposed to. i remember having to call my brother and tell him not to order tickets for NYC because he tripped and landed on a bullet.

the songs sound good, but the vocals sound as expected. questionable idea, meh execution. MEH.
