New site? Maybe some day.

i'm talking with a guy from craigslist about buying this guitar amp
anyone ever use one?
it's almost too cheap to pass up... i have always had good feelings about their speakers and basses. never once had an issue there. i've been reading reviews online and they always get great reviews from a reliability and sound standpoint, but i can't help but be a little uneasy about picking it up because of my guitarist's recent romps down peavey terrace...
but i've been reading that it's more solidly built than a lot of peavey's more modern tube amps.
anyone have experience with one of these?
i haven't seen it yet, so it may also look like this:
edit: i realize that's a picture of a peavey ultra 60, and a peavey ultra 120 plus, but they all look the same on the outside minus the badges... having a hard time getting linkable images. |
the ultra plus is the good one. way worth the money. gets a good Death/cynic sound. most people will tell you peavey's are built to last my self included. get it! |
thanks ernie. i don't believe this is the ultra plus. i'm pretty sure it's the older one... the style from the top picture... but just a regular ultra 120. i'm probably gonna get it anyways. |
i love the cynic/death bass sound. i always wondered where that came from. |
old peavey equipment had the design philosophy that if something was worth making, it was worth making it twice as heavy as it needed to be... or something.
that being said, i've had a peavey bass cab for like 7 years. thing is a tank and has never let me down and sounds awesome. old peavey guitar stuff isnt too bad. they may lack style, but they make up for it with quality and reliability. and back problems.

it's actually a guitar amp. i traded my jcm2000 half stack for a 1x12 combo and cash a long time ago and i haven't been able to get a full on erection while playing guitar in a while, so i'm gonna get back into it. reclaiming my manhood through 120 watt all tube deimmasculinification.
i don't know what the bass player from either of those bands used... that death record with all the fretless bass almost certainly has no bass amp at all. gotta be 95% direct sounds. |
fun.
from what i've gathered here i'm going to have a guitar amp that will rival my 100 pound bass amp. gotta get over to the hospital and get me some o that health insurance and start meeting with a chiropractor again. |
Those amps fucking rule. Buy it. Ultra 60/120/Plus all rule for dirt cheap high gainz. |

I used on for a bit and it sounded great. Overcast used one, and I always liked their tone |
so jealous, love the ultra 120.
Definitely buy it, these things rip. Been looking for one myself. |
I had the Ultra 60 for years, loved it, one of my biggest regrets is selling the damn thing for shit money. Marcus swears by the Peavy Ultra 60/120 sound |
i've been playing the Ultra Plus 120 since like '96 and haven't ever thought of using anything else. |
thanks for all the replies... looks like i can be fairly confident with this one. i hope to meet up with this guy today.
How much are you getting it for? |
12 gypsy tears and a bag of oregano. |
i'm getting it for a nylon string guitar that i traded a guy two guitars i got out of a dumpster for. legit. basically free, with the exception of the savarez super high tension strings with wrapped nylon trebles i bought for it. 20 bucks if you count that.
meeting up with him friday. |
don't be too jealous. i don't have a cab. lol. i'm gonn have to think of something to trade off for a 4x12 or some other form of sexy audio reinforcement. |
