north adams has MCLA. I know kids that go there. The scene you will be looking at involves about 40 artfags in a circlejerk pounding cocks and 40's and talking about the latest indie release.

Being a berkshire county native here's what I have to say. Pittsfield (the county seat) had (and apparently still has) a small but thriving hardcore scene. Metal was always lacking though there have always been a few exceptions. North Adams is the armpit of the berkshires, however it now is home to mass moca. The combo of mass moca and MCLA has drawn some hipsters to the region and mass moca often has some decent sized indie shows.

There is a good band from Pittsfield called Warsynium. I'm in Hatfield which is about 40 minutes from there. North Adams is about as far North and west as you can get in the state.
