Massive Attack, Red Snapper, Laika, Portishead, all the dark haunting beautiful atmospheric beats I've been into forever and can't live without. Downtempo, chillout, night driving, get your girl all sexed up music. so who's with me?

i don't know trip-hop, but i know that Justin Broadrick has some influence from that style.

massive attack = the balls

i don't have any particular favorites, i typically go with a pandora-esque online radio station that plays all sorts of random artists no one has ever heard of

FAIL.
you didn't mention Forest for the Trees.

toggletoggle post by ouchdrummer   at Oct 7,2008 3:53pm
never heard forest for the trees. silly name though. than again.....ouch?

toggletoggle post by darkwor at Oct 7,2008 3:55pm
i didn't know that about godflesh, makes a whole lot of sense though. and i guess i have to check out forest for the trees!

They're not like Massive Attack or any of those bands.
listen to the song "infinite cow." Their songs usually have so many subtle things going on in the background - it's crazy.

Portishead rules all. Remember Tricky? The into of the Masters of Illusion record (Kool Keith and Motion Man) says "there's no such thing as trip hop. Its a figment of a lame cunts imagination. There's g funk, west coast, miami bass, underground, but there's no such thing as trip hop." He elaborates more, ever heard this? I think is a slim genre on the line of not being one. Like tardcore or scat grind.

i almost saw massive attack sometime last year i think at the orpheum but.... i didn't

england comes out with some of the stangest shit, i think anyway.
the latest portishead was ok
beth gibbons has a solo album out also

toggletoggle post by ellesarusrex  at Oct 7,2008 11:52pm
shes been doing solo since their split.

toggletoggle post by darkwor at Oct 8,2008 9:45am
i guess if a few million people on last.fm use the trip-hop term to describe a recognizable familiar type of music, then it's a genre to me and i had no idea they were at the orpheum...would've definitely been there..

toggletoggle post by darkwor at Oct 8,2008 9:47am
beth gibbons' voice scares the hell out of me. but i do listen to a lot of portishead.

toggletoggle post by aril at Oct 8,2008 9:48am
