So, as many of you are fully aware over the years I've grown to be a MASSIVE powermetal nerd. My collection is pretty insane, but I'm always looking for more stuff. Over the last few weeks, these are some bands I've recently been checking out. As usual, note that none of these bands are American. American powermetal is just a sad, sad scene right now.
I could write a little description and comment for each, but instead I'm laying out the links and videos nicely for you. Don't be a lazy prick, just listen to the stuff and make your own opinions. Also, check it all out, as there's huge differences in these bands.
Divine Fire (CHRISTIAN powermetal with horrifyingly cheesy lyrics, but I cannot stop listening to it. The album is actually quite good, but for god's sake don't watch the videos. It's that bad.)
Hibria rules. "Defying the Rules" is such a badass album. Battleroar and Holy Martyr are excellent epic power metal. Manticora is one of my favorites at the moment. Their "8 Deadly Sins" album kills.
Battleroar's "To Death and Beyond..." is certainly a step up from "Age of Chaos." Definitely get "8 Deadly Sins." "Hyperion" is also another good album from Manticora.
Hopefully you listen to Helstar and Jag Panzer. Iron Savior should also be mentioned.
i've been listening to the new pharaoh album a lot lately, aymar really sounds great with this band. if you aren't familiar with them, here's their myspace.

Whoa, that's one I hadn't heard before. Ironically, it's also the first good U.S. powermetal band I've heard in a billion years. I'll be picking this one up. The singer reminds me of "By Inheritance" era Artillery. Guitars have that Annihilator squeal to them too. I love it.

the new Divinfire album is sick. i downloaded it last week and it fucking rips. really aggressive power metal.
that japanese band throws me off because the guy sounds so italian but is so not. good shit though.
Yeah, the new Divine Fire is going to be my new closet obsession. After watching their homemade videos on youtube I am fully aware that this band is fucking gayer than the gayest of gays, but I CANNOT stop LISTENING to it.
And Galneryus cracks me up. The albums I have are both sick. The singer is tryinf so hard for that italian powermetal sound, it's weird hearing a Jap that can actually sing! However, it's too obvious the fucker doesn't speak a word of english. The guitarist in that band is a certifiable badass.
i've been listening to Dark Moor for years. great great great band that doesnt really sound much like anyone else. "Tarot" is a great album. "Beyond the Sea" absolutely floored me when i first heard it. "Hall..." and the self titled ruled as well. they sort of have a Sonata Arctica vibe but didnt turn into shit like they did.
Probably the worst thing that's been posted in this thread. And that's including the christian powermetal!
But seriously, in a less harsh way I'd have to say they sound too much like what they are - some older guys rehashing 'back in the day'. The grooves are too simple and the grooves (and some vox) reek of manowar.
That is another requisite I must mention if you recommend me something: I fucking HATE manowar. Except the kings of Metal CD, which has that awesome "Grandfather! Tell me a story!" thing.
Yeah. Souvenirs was their last album. They put out a lot of really good shit. Check out If Then Else and Nighttime Birds. those are my current favorites. Mandylion, Always, and How To Measure a Planet are also good, though.
