New site? Maybe some day.
i have a 120 gig hard drive with xp on it, so i just need the tower. any suggestions on cheap but good shit? my wife plays some games, nothing fancy, i go here and download music, basic pc use.
on a better note, i just fiished backing up all my music and pictures onto a 160GB usb drive. |
if you can get together 400 bucks... there is some really awesome stuff on tiger direct... 200 bucks will get you an ok rig.
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/Se...asp?EdpNo=3442437&Sku=P450-9102%20D
i have this case.. the only downside is that I had to cut a hole in part of it to install the fan...
I guess I was supposed to secure it to the MOBO first.... but thats kinda stupid since it bends the board a bit even with a back plate.
I got a similar package with a shitty pentium dual core 3ghz and 2 gigs of nice ram with the same mobo for 399.
but its also had 2 sli linked XFX brand 8500gts with 512megs each...
I'm willing to sell that card for 80 since I dont need it.
Or you can scavenge from your old PC.
But this is a decent deal for that mobo and that processor they are both close to top of the line.
ull need a fan, dvd drive, ram and probably a longer harddrive cable than they supply(if you drive is IDE).
What is your old computer... Are you selling the parts? |
i'm keeping the cd-rw, dvd drive, it has two 256mb memory chips |
two 256's isnt something that you wanna keep
www.newegg.com look at barebones PC's... or better yet... look around for new comps that are pretty cheap. you can buy some new ones for as low as $350. |
i mistyped that, im not keeping the memory |
hahaha oh, good... because thats pitiful by today's standards... let me guess... SDram? haha |
what do y'all think of this |
doesnt seem too bad, but you know that you have to supply your own RAM, hard drive, and processor right?
not a bad deal when you can get 2 gigs of DDR2 ram for 100 bucks, a processor for like another 100 and a 250 gig hard drive for like 80. |
Try an abacus. I'm posting from mine right now. |
my pc just kicked, i need suggestions |
THEN HOW ARE YOU POSTING HERE?!?
TIME PARADOX |
I thought that samething when I read it.
brad, I have a similar case and I love it. |
i hooked up my laptop for now
i have the hdd,so if i build it in pieces it may take a couple months but i think id rather do that than get some Best Buy or Dell box, which is what my wife wants to do. |
my computer is the worst. it has the black death. i dont know how to back up all my music and photos which are in adundance.. and this peice of worthless shit crashes atleast 10 times a day. i cant even play games on it anymore.. which is the reason why i purchased this articular brand. if at all anyone knows how to do this stuff for me i would be super stoked.. come on computer nerds... ill bake for you! |
you do know you cant take a HD with an install of windows on it and just put it in another computer and have it work right? The install is locked to a particular motherboard and cant just be switched. There are cases where if the new mobo has a similar chipset and processor then windows can sort of boot into safemode for you to update the drivers. But for the most part youre just going to get blue screens constantly and it'll be really unstable until you reinstall windows. |
i did not know that, thank you. i have a legit copy of xp, so i can reinstall it if need be. |
i have a legit key for xp pro if you would rather have the capability to have 4gigs of ram and none of the home entertainment shit that you dont need.
building a comp is both easy and a pain in the ass unless you know exactly what you are doing. unless its a linux box, then its a little easier. if you have all new parts that came with the drivers on cd and stuff, no problem. if you are frankensteining a comp, it could become a pain in the ass.
how man gigs is your HDD? honestly sometimes bestbuy/staples/dell has great deals for what you are getting. you are probably better off financially buying a store bought one. there really isnt much difference in building a computer and buying one now, price wise. atleast with a store bought one, you know its gonna work right that second and you have a warranty to shove down the salesman's throat later on. |
my hdd is 120GB. i've built shit before, it's just been a couple years |

In those couple years prices are a little more in line. It's still cheaper to build it yourself than it is to buy pre-made, but in your price range it's really a difference of dollars.
Buy the compaq spaldino listed, or go over to slickdeals.net and watch the forums. Usually a good system for a few hundred will pop up after a day or two.

HP DeBranded Athlon64 X2 3800+ 2.0GHz 1GB 200GB DVD±RW DVD $332 shipped
There was a really good deal on a dell, but it already died. |
hmm, now i got some thinkerin to do, thanks for the idears |
In the meantime, think about signing up for Freecycle. People often give away older machines that you could just install the old HD into. It's an effort to try and keep em out of landfills.
Even if you're thinking of building or buying, it's a nifty stopgap solution.
