What lenses do you find you use the most for shows? Just wondering.

17-55mm f/2.8 dx
24-70mm f/2.8 fx

12-24 mm f4 dx

True.... A 24-70mm f/2.8 isnt that far away really. This is what happens when I get bored at work. I should hide my credit cards.

you only live once, just buy it. you can always sell good lenses for nearly the same price you paid for it years later.

Funny I just stumbled on one of Revs review of the Sigma 24 - 70 I might get at dpreview.com

that was the $350 version one lens. the new one is a DC lens and does macro. that is also on a full frame camera so 24mm on it is like 17mm on your camera.
The version 1 of the 17-35mm sigma blew, but I heard good things about the version 2.
I really suggest never getting any variable aperture lenses (except the 70-300)

oh and tom, I don't need canon anymore. I have a D3. haven't touched her canon's since.

Sigma has some nice glass.

Whats your impression of the SIGMA 18-50MM F2.8 EX DC ?

people speak rather highly of it. I would probably suggest that to you over the 24-70mm on a dx camera.
