This past weekend was me and the lady's anniversary so I did a decent amount of money spending. I have my own separate account(through Wachovia) a small amount of my paycheck goes into. I dipped into it several times this weekend for odds and ends. Made some ATM transactions to keep track of the money in there, the last one being on Friday night when I had 58 bucks left in it. I'd used it a couple times since then totaling to no more than like 25 bucks. I log into my account an hour ago and i'm 300 bucks overdrafted. WTF. I look at my transactions the sneaky fucks literally went back in time and retraced all my steps chronologically so that I WOULD overdraft. Apparently I'd been overdrafted since Thursday which is COMPLETE BS. So, now I have to sit on the phone with these fucking people to get them to at least zero my account out so I can close it because this isnt the first time this has happened.

I'm fuming. There's no way I'm giving these people 300 bucks.

Stop blaming the bank and realize:

1) ATM's are NOT updated in real time, and can be horribly inaccurate regarding account balances. They are NOT a surefire way of tracking your current balance in real time.

2) You should never spend down to your last dollars in any account, no matter what it's for or how much you keep in it.

Financial responsibility is not the bank's problem, it's yours. I give you this advice not to be a dick, but because I had very similar problems a long time ago and spent too much time blaming the banks, not enough time learning to track and manage my finances PROPERLY.

Agreed.

Keep strict records, and this will not EVER happen again.

toggletoggle post by mOe forgot his PW at Sep 26,2007 8:06am
i also checked my account via the internet and after a solid week of inactivity was NOT overdrafted as of thursday night like they say I was

toggletoggle post by mOe forgot his PW at Sep 26,2007 8:07am
i know banks are in the business of bouncing checks and overdrafting this is a prime example of that and they're not getting 300 bucks out of me and I didnt spend down to the last dollar, I SHOULD have had 30 bucks left in there

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Sep 26,2007 9:02am
30 bucks is pretty close to the "last dollar". my bank account needs to have $5,000 in it or I get charged.

toggletoggle post by succubus  at Sep 26,2007 9:05am
banks don't bounce checks..people do.

you must be fucking loaded?

having $5000 is NOT loaded
lol

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Sep 26,2007 9:12am
no, I'm smart, have a good job, and spent years not buying things/saving money. If I were loaded, then I would have the $20K account that hands out ivory back scratchers and your ATM car spritzes out french perfume once every 5 minutes.

I laughed pretty hard when WTC happened; nothing to warm the heart like two giant stacks of banks getting pwned. Hang'em all.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Sep 26,2007 9:51am
yeah, that'll show 'em... or this isn't fight club so all their records are backed up to off-site locations.

toggletoggle post by Mess at Sep 26,2007 9:57am
it must be the amish in you that you were able to save all that dough?

Doesn't dilute the comedy one whit, my good man, not a whit.

people blaming banks and financial institutions for their own horrible mismanagement of their personal finances so fucking annoying to me. step up to the plate and take responsibility for your lack of $$ and your lack of ability to manage this SMALL amount of $$.

pretty classy statement about the WTC, that'll show 'em banks to operate legally on US soil! reminds me of a joke i heard back in '01:

"How many 9/11 victims does it take to change a light bulb?"

"About 3,000."

Internet is ALSO not updated in real time. They give you a balance book with your checking account for a reason. Start using it. THEN, and only then, will you be in a position to sit down and argue with a bank.

ATMs are the death of everyone. I can't stand them, and I don't use them. Maybe I just know too many people with poor financial habits, but all they seem to do is get people into trouble.

I've got a checking account through Harbor One, and a savings account through HSBC Direct. I deposit all my paychecks in person. And I always know where my money is, and where it's going. One less thing to worry about.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Sep 26,2007 1:55pm
yeah, but you have to do your banking in person during business hours. I just don't have the time.

toggletoggle post by Aura_At_Dusk  at Sep 26,2007 1:58pm
I usually check my stuff daily so i know about how much i have spent. ATM's are so useful if you find the right one that doesnt charge you an arm and a leg. I feel that im much more willing to spend money if i have cash in my pocket rather than taking out money for the whole week...anyways work is extra boring today any one else agree?

It gives me an excuse to get up before noon on saturdays. Otherwise I'd just sleep till 4 in the afternoon, then be all pissed about it.

I got molestered for $70+ a few weeks back for buying like packs of gum and other little shit on my card that was overdrawn because my landlord took like 3 weeks to cash my rent check; I thought I had money...

Been there on that one.

financial responsibility? This bank has been bailed out with our tax dollars becuase they are financially inept with our money. The fact that these hippocrites can charge me $35 for a $3 purchase when I paid to keep this entity alive is horrible. Fuck Wachovia.
