It's weird, because I barely bit the nail on this finger for a while, so I don't see why it would get infected. Anyway, how should I go about bringing the swelling down? There's nowhere I can see that could drain. Any self-medicating people want to chime in?

ibuprofen helps with swelling. take 400 - 600mg and see how your finger looks in an hour.

You know, I completely forgot about ibuprofen.

Tylenol helps too.

If all else fails, just go to a doctor and a get a script for some general antibiotics.

No, for real, soak the finger in some heavily salted water, as hot as you can stand. Do this whenever you have time to sit around looking dumb with a bowl of water. It will help a ton.

The issue is that there's no cut to put any anti-bacterial cream. This looks like it's only swollen from the inside. Lancing doesn't look like an option either, since I have no idea how to do it if there's no visible place to poke.

The water should still help - but I'd find a way to stick a needle in it if I were you. Not because it's a good idea, but because I'm compulsive about that shit.

soak it in the salt water for a few days, the infection should come to the surface and you can lance it. if not, go see your doc for some antibiotics.
