That is the 3rd time I've applied and been denied by those assholes.

I know way more than the friggin whole north attleborough staff.

These are people I regularly see plugging heads into cabs with guitar cables, mismatch impedance on amps, provide inaccurate information, and the only effort they put into anything is selling extended warranties.

They just hired this chick too, she's a friend of mine and how she got the job is absolutely beyond me. She doesn't know anything about gear and landed a job in guitar accessories.

their excuse was 'You don't have enough on-the-books retail experience'. Which is horse shit. Just because I was working under the table in the last store I worked at doesn't mean I'm incapable of being on the books.

Also, the female friend I mentioned has no previous work experience.

Fucking airheads. Their loss.

I had no previous work experiance and they hire me and I'm the #2 sales person in the store since I started over a year ago.

toggletoggle post by niccolai   at Oct 20,2006 4:42pm
You work at the natick GC right?

toggletoggle post by RichHorror  at Oct 20,2006 4:43pm
They didn't hire you because you don't snort coke.

toggletoggle post by niccolai   at Oct 20,2006 4:44pm
DO TOO!!

toggletoggle post by jesustwin at Oct 20,2006 5:43pm
do you have long hair? do you play the image? if not, you probably won't get shit from them. get a nose ring, don't take a shower for a week, fart right when you get there.

I worked at Guitar Center in Danvers. They handful of absolute fuckin retards while I was working there. One particular dick head was hired in Pro Audio, based on having recording experience on his fuckin PLAYSTATION. The dumb wigger was fired two weeks later for stealing.

Anyways, you're better off bro. I did well, compared to most. I still get asked to come back everytime I stop by the store. In my opinion, it's way cooler being there as a customer, compared to an employee.

toggletoggle post by Frank Shamrock at Oct 20,2006 5:55pm
oops, they *hired a handfull of absolute retards is what I intended to say. Me included I guess.

trust me when i say, YOU DO NOT WANT TO WORK FOR GUITAR CENTER. once you realize how truly fucked up the pay structure is, you'll regret it. plus you'll be working 50+ hours a week for shit. but hey, that's just my humble opinion (i worked there for 3 months).

toggletoggle post by niccolai   at Oct 20,2006 7:55pm
I just want the job for a few month till spring starts, and I'd like the discounts that come with working there. There's some gear I'd like to buy.

toggletoggle post by pam   at Oct 20,2006 7:56pm
Places like Guitar Center and Newbury Comics only hire you if you know someone or look like a scenester.

toggletoggle post by niccolai   at Oct 20,2006 7:57pm
I do know someone and I do look like a scensester.

You're better off finding a friend who works there to get you a discount. Employees purchases all need to be approved by management. If they think you're just working for the discount, you won't get it. It can take months to be approved if you actually want to buy something decent.

The pay structure is also complete bullshit. I was lucky enough to "fade" every month I worked, but many ended working 50-60 hrs a week for 6.50 an hour. It is ridiculous. Their is a reason you see new people working there every time you stop in. Meetings at 8am on Saturdays, ya, real fuckin rock n' roll. Gotta gig on a Friday night? Have fun arranging that.

Also, you need compile a minimum of 25 new names and phone numbers a week for your "Card File". In other words, your list of people they want you to telemarket. Fuckin scum bags. Don't get your 25 "Ups"? Well, you can lose your bonus. My blood pressure is rising just thinking about it. This is all coming from someone who actually did well working there. Place aint worth the stress.

BTW, I don't look like a scenester, but I did have experience in retail management. I can also play guitar somewhat well, which actually is NOT one of their requirements. Fuck working at Guitar Center bro, you're better off.

"We only hire boring, safe, people" (read: We are tools and only like our own kind)

Hitler would have gassed Guitar Center and implemented the Volksguitar.

Maybe if you know someone and you look like a scenester, they cancel each other out and you don't get the job.

before i moved to worcester i was living at home in millbury for a while and i had applied to the guitar center in natick. they hired me there but it wasn't feasible for me to drive out there everyday at the time. now that i live in worcester they opened one at this huge mall down the street from my old house, and now this one won't hire me because they're overstaffed with emo kids.

god damn emo kids ruin everything, although one did give me great advice on a brand of acoustic strings

i went to the gc in danvers and i saw a flyer saying 'now hiring full time ask' but north a. is alot futher than danvers

Moronic stores hire morons. Get dumb and you'll get the job.

Its not to difficult to figure out when some lame company wont hire you. I HATE job interviews. First impressions are a hit or miss. If you dont make a good impression on the manager whos interviewing you then forget it. Also remember EVERY company drug tests now. So lay off the weed LOL!!!

honestly dude, you dont want to work for GC. i just quit the place, cus im done being a sales monkey. it goes way beyond knowing the shit, you have to be a douche and sell shit to people that kind of dont want it. the pay is decent if you can pull it off, but its really not worth all the morons who come in and ask you the stupidest questions of your life all the time, all day long.

you don't get the empolyee discount until you've worked there for 6 months.

I work at the Boston store which gets WAYYY more business than most of the other stores in the area including Danvers and Natick.

I make 30+k a year here and re-sell tons of my employee purchases. You can get INCREDIBLE deals buying used gear either for yourself or for the sake of re-selling.

I still wouldnt recommend working at GC to the average person though. You have to be a great salesman to make decent money.
