Just got this review by Pull The Chain webzine from Belgium...

DESENSITISED - Virus of Violence - Pathos Productions

Desensitised (for my opinion), one of The Netherlands's most interesting kept secrets finally get around to release their new and third full length. I already reviewed their first full length («Thriving On Carnage» released through Bleedin' Hemorrhoid Records some four years ago), missed their second album «Bought Beauty» and here they are on the American based Pathos Productions. It took me a while to get into Desensitised anno 2006 as the Dutch act quite radically changed its main musical direction. With «Virus of Violence», Desensitised have really produced a very good old school Death Metal album with almost no sign of influence from the majority of their countrymen (Severe Torture, God Dethroned, The Monolith….). They play Death Metal in the old school European style with just enough Grind or Thrash background to make it more than simply interesting. The nice gurgled vocal works are as audible as they are pleasant and compliment equally the melodic guitar lines (with some Carcass / Aborted touches) and the efficient drums works. «Virus of Violence» appears to me as an excellent brutal yet melodic Death Metal album.

DESENSITISED is a wonderful Jewish band (drummer and bassist are Jewish) who are helping us with this month's "Boycott Mel Gibson, Jew-Hating Anti-Semite Christian Nutcase Festival."

9 Skulls

Holland's DESENSITISED combines the ferocity of Death Metal with the groove of Grind, the breathing space of Doom, and even melodies from the Gothenburg Sound. This full-length debut makes one hell of an impression, particularly when this outfit chooses to Grind. Tracks like "Martyr," "Religious Slaves," and "Struggling Existence" are particular standouts, with sexy guitarist Susan getting down with the sickness while drummer Martijn works wonders on the skins and bassist Jeroen (since departed) knocks down some low notes on the thumper. Vocalist Wilbert combines Death-Metal grunts with Hardcore screams, giving his voice enough clarity to come through well. Lyrically, the band explores how fear influences our lives, from its unexplainable yet compelling sensations ("In the Grip of Fear") and how it has spawned religion ("Religious Slaves") to its horrid grip when embraced by cancer ("Struggling Existence") and its drive to keep each one of us alive, no matter the cost ("Foetus in Fetu"). Like Alex says at the opening of Virus of Violence, "This would sharpen you up and make you ready for a bit of the old ultraviolence."
