i've suffered from depression in the past, but i didnt need medication. its all in the mind. you can defeat anything if you just put your mind to it. medication is the easy way out.

I really hope you didnt just go from normal dosage to no dosage. Youre supposed to fade out usage, not just drop it. SSRI's arent a joke; thats why the Govt puts black box warnings on certain meds.

What are you, a scientologist??
That is the stupidest thing I've read on here in a while.

There is no way in Hell you've ever been around real manic depressives if you think that way.

drugs are only gonna bandaid the situation no matter what it is,manic,bi polar etc..the best thing for you to do is stop ALL the drugs,so you can think clearly and rationally and then take a god hard look in the mirror as painful as that may be,then take steps to change your life and remove the things that are leading you to depression to begin with,,there is no quick fix and noone/nothing but YOU will ever be able to bring true happiness into your life

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Apr 5,2006 5:53pm
someone post that ani-gif of tom cruise zapping oprah.

honestly, I think that you were much more balanced when you were taking prozac. your post got a lot more retard after you came off that shit (you posted a thread exactly like this then asking for natural remedies).

"coming off" zoloft is making you a dick.
I vote you go back on prozac and stop "coming off" thing. I haven't read this thread, but the way you talk makes me thing that you are just buying these drugs online and not going through a doctor. if you are self medicating, stop cause that's mega gay. self medicate to get fucked up. not try to get unfucked up.

i've never been on meds for anything so my opinion is probably biased, but i'm going to agree with what this guy said. my girl used to take meds for depression, and taking the pills only made her worse. a friend of mine was taking pills for anxiety and those always made him really drowsy and tired - he couldn't get out so his anxiety kept acting up all the time. his doctor lowered his dosage and now he's doing much better.

i know depression isn't always just a minor case of the blues and some severe cases may require medication, but from what i've seen in a few people i know, pills always seem to have side effects that make you feel even more like shit or they don't do much of anything at all. i think if i were feeling depressed, i'd try a more natural approach and perhaps make a few changes in my lifestyle.

toggletoggle post by Anthony at Apr 5,2006 8:37pm
that's a good point. I don't know if you work out at all (Metalcoresucks) but you should really start exercising if you dont already. It makes your brain release sweet, sweet hormones that improve energy, mood, etc.

that was more my point. i dated a manic depressive, and she was beyond any form of help, medication or not. something tells me this guy is just looking for attention. manic depression is accompanied by way more than just depression. and when you are truly manic depressive, you arent going to come onto a message board and ask complete strangers their opinions on mental health and medication. you see a fucking doctor about it.

Nowadays all you have to do to get on wellbutrin, zoloft, prozac, paxil.... is to go to your local head doctor and tell them that you don't enjoy life and are constantly having a bad day at work. I've seen it so many times between my friends and family, it makes me sick.

You sound a bit defensive. Sorta like a dopefiend or an alcoholic trying to justify his use. If you want someone to tell you that it's ok to use these drugs, go back to you psychiatrist.

toggletoggle post by MetalcoreSUCKS at Apr 6,2006 12:04pm

I 2nd that. What are you supposed to concentrate real hard to correct a chemical imballance? It don't work, I've tried. Ecstacy worked for me, but then again it also caused the problem. So I don't recommend that.

why the hell would you try to prove your doctor wrong? i knew a girl who was told by her doctor never to smoke because of her health condition, so she became a smoker just to go against what her doctor said. to me, that's just stupid, but then again, my doctors told me to drastically cut down on my boozing and i've actually been drinking more since then, so i'm pretty much an idiot too.

toggletoggle post by SacreligionNLI at Apr 6,2006 12:42pm
how can your psychiatrist say you have a chemical imbalance? did she take a brain sample?

i was put on zoloft and had to see a shrink because my school thought i made a bomb threat(that some dumb cunt made so she wouldn't have to pass in a project)

neither the drugs nor the therapy were worthwhile

for the love of christ...the first thing you should do is stop seeing a psychiatrist,if you're happy she's out of a job, that's exactly why psychiatrists love to prescribe meds in the first place,"well,we could tell this guy to exercise and eat right and focus on making positive advancement in his life every day.....or we could string him out on whatever is hot this week and keep him coming back for years and years without actually doing or resolving anything"hmmm. tough choice when you have that 3000$ a month mortgage coming in and it looks like suzy might make it into yale!

MetalcoreSUCKS,

If you don't like what one doctor says, see another one. Get a second opinion, or a third. If you feel the need, get seven. They may tell you to do something diffrent, they may tell you to do the same thing... But you'll have a better grasp of the situation.

Also, don't waste your time on a "natural" cure... 90% of them are no better than a placebo.

Zoloft doesn't act fast. It balances chemicals in your brain; it takes week(s) for a pill's contents to reach your brain. stipping a dose for two days shouldn't make you act like an asshole.

If you want to take yourself off of it. start taking half pills instead of holes, than take a half pill every other day, then every two days, then stop.

YOur brain becomes dependant off them and you need to slowly ween yourself away from the dependancy.

Also, make sure you're getting plenty of excersize while you're taking yourself off of the meds. Socialization is important, as is being outside a decent amount of the time. don't sit at home on your computer, otherwise your saratonin levels will just drop right back down.

It's a lack of sociability and activity that keep depressed people in a state of chemical depression.
