returntothepit >> discuss >> the 'return to the pit' scene? by Joe/NotCommon on Feb 14,2005 9:03am

The other night at DeeDees the guitarist from Suicide Dream said something like 'this is our first show with return to the pit bands' and I thought that was a curious thing to say.

I don't really think there is a 'return to the pit' scene, mainly because aaron focuses on so many different things and the bands who are active on the message board don't really play together as a whole. In some cases, certain bands hate other bands (like Porphyria hates CSDO for example).

What do other people think?

toggletoggle post by niccolai   at Feb 14,2005 9:06am
Theres to much internal difference and fighting to consider it a unified scene.
It's more like the real world.

toggletoggle post by Joe/NotCommon   at Feb 14,2005 9:08am
I suppose 'return to the pit scene' could be a blanket term for all of new england

toggletoggle post by RustedAngel at Feb 14,2005 9:10am
I wouldn't say all of porphyria hates CSDO, just me. Though, I think they agree with me when I say it's retarded that they automatically get thrown on every big bombshelter show.

I think there are a group of bands/friends here who you probably would call RTTP bands since we all post here, as opposed to the WAAF bands like wretched asylum, mongrel, departed ect who don't post here.

toggletoggle post by hoser at Feb 14,2005 9:17am
Except that WAAF bands really suck. The music is about as unimaginative as the radio station that spits that puke out.

*sings* "Straight out of Liiiiiife, I can't find a reeeesonah!!"

In terms of making fun of Baystate rock bands, then I see the return to the pit bands label being effective.

In terms of a 'scene' though, I don't think Kevorkian's Angels and Hirudinea are in the same 'scene' as Teratism and Anoxia, to use another example.

toggletoggle post by dreadkill  at Feb 14,2005 9:21am
i agree with tom. i think of it as rttp bands and waaf bands. the bay state rock board would never tolerate such joe christianni bashing.

toggletoggle post by Joe/NotCommon   at Feb 14,2005 9:22am
haha, US vs THEM! I think wretched asylum unified metal more then anyone.

toggletoggle post by dreadkill  at Feb 14,2005 9:23am
rttp people are very misunderstood on the bsr board. i'm considered one of the biggest assholes on earth when i post over there. rttp is a fun loving group of jokesters. they just can't appreciate the rttp members' senses of humor.

toggletoggle post by dreadkill  at Feb 14,2005 9:24am
i heard wretched asylum has a feud with sodom and that's why christianni doesn't like sodom.

toggletoggle post by armageddonday   at Feb 14,2005 9:26am
cry of what? Joy? I knew it...

toggletoggle post by dreadkill  at Feb 14,2005 9:28am
even though my band is more melodic and wouldn't fit on a show with a lot of the rttp bands, i think we have more in common with death metal and grind bands than waaf bands, because we listen to those kinds of bands. i'm sure some of the bsr people are good people, but i find it really hard to see eye to eye with them about music.

Doesn't Suicide Dream post here? Wouldn't that make them a 'return to the pit' band, the same as Teratism and Cryptic Warning?

well dude, we'd play with you guys, I like playing with different kinds of bands as long as it's not shit like W.A. cough cough. Some bands here only want to play with certain bands which is fine, but it's not us. We're all into different kinds of shit.

half of the AAF kids are just radio heads, they know nothing about music unless it's on the radio.

if you think of it that way maybe, but the only time I see SD post here is when he has a show. Not a very contributing member to RTTP society.

toggletoggle post by Joe/NotCommon   at Feb 14,2005 9:38am
I see your point

toggletoggle post by dreadkill  at Feb 14,2005 9:39am
yeah, it's totally true. i only post on bay state rock to attract the decent people , and there aren't many.

toggletoggle post by Joe/NotCommon   at Feb 14,2005 9:44am
For me, as a promoter (and I don't know that anyone else agrees with me on this, other then Anne), the flow of the show is very key. Having a mix of bands is fine, I consider many of my shows to be a good mix of styles, but without risking the flow of the show to work. I'm making Noosebomb (easily a headlining band) play second on April 16th because it flows better. I think that is part of making people have a good time for the whole night.

You could have 4 killer bands on a show, and it might not be a good show. Again, thats how I feel and nothing has ever made me think differently.

toggletoggle post by subjugate   at Feb 14,2005 9:48am
i post on bsr have since 2002 and i get pretty much crucified for my show posts and comments

i post here and no one really gives a shit here either i guess we just don't belong to either scene

toggletoggle post by dreadkill  at Feb 14,2005 9:51am
bane of existence is a big part of the rttp scene.

actual metal bands seem to be coined "rttp" bands

gay bands are waaf bands

hardcore bands spread their brutality thru myspace so i am told.

and as far as the whole us vs. them thing on the bsr board.....hahaha i was banned from that site and i still can't veiw it from this computer i can read the board from other computers but if i log in those computers get blocked too. i rule.

toggletoggle post by subjugate   at Feb 14,2005 12:40pm

do i really need to bring back the boe appreciation thread again

we love the shroudsters.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Feb 14,2005 1:47pm
I've heard the phrase "rttp" bands too.. maybe I've used it too.. some of you have too at shows. I call a band an "rttp" band if one of the members promotes thier band on this board and hooks other bands up on this board with shows.
this means that I end up shooting "rttp" bands a lot more than other bands.

These bands do tend to be more "metal" cause that's what the bands that the people that post here are in. Yes, I will more bands like COA posted things here to bring more "hardcore" music into this board, but whatever. this board does it's own thing, and I do my thing. a lot of the bands that I shoot pictures of at least 1/2 the board hates them and I don't care.

the one thing that I do like is there is a separation of the board/the site/me. what does that obvious split mean? basically, if someone posts dumb shit about someone else, that person doesn't blame me for it. Also, if I shoot pictures of a "gay" band, people don't hold it against the site.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Feb 14,2005 1:50pm edited Feb 14,2005 1:51pm
also, I like a lot of noise and melodic metal-influence hardcore which is most notably known to the world as the dirty M-word... METALCORE.
Time to listen to some saburbian white kids playing euro-metal-music [better than in flames does now]

toggletoggle post by gorgish at Feb 14,2005 1:51pm
aaron you're ruining the scene. i blame the helvete online uproar on you entirely.

toggletoggle post by dyingmuse   at Feb 14,2005 2:04pm
this scene basically thrives through rttp, and i think if you take away rttp the scene here would deminish alot! i love that he takes pics of my band and i love that almost every show we have ever played was in some way through this board. aarron is the fucking man period! i think most bands feel the same way about that. anybody against rttp are just haters! fuck em' keep up the great work aarron! \m/ \m/

For the most part, I agree. I don't think a scene exists because of rttp, it's the other way around. Scene snobbery will always be around, whether it's real or imagined.

Anything any of my bands have experienced with rttp has always been positive. That's rare, and we really appreciate it.

its more like a gathering of scenes. however you define a "scene".

but mostly its just people who like good music and local music. They just so happen communicate with each other on a message board. i don't think that makes a rttp a scene.

I believe it's a scene of sorts, I mean you have all the new england local bands posting here, this message board is just as busy as most of the top metal boards around, and altho some of the bands don't get along, they are all from this area for the most part. that's my 2 cents anyhow.

I might add too that with all the show reviews, and pics gallore that get posted and updated very frequently about all the local events is a great help to producing a scene and positivly supporting it.

In regards to the original topic, I think it's because he usually plays/sets up shows with "WAAF Bands"...so playing with music that doesn't suck ass is something he hasn't done since his last show with the SAC...woooo!!

A "RTTP Band" would be anyone on this board and I'm sure there was no negative connotation intended.

Being in the middle of the two is quite hilarious...I can honestly say I've enjoyed every minute of it...except for those Departed bastards *shakes fist*

Seriously though, I have posted here on several other occasions, but more often than not I just read when I come here... (I guess I don't see the point in adding reply #67 to a 66 reply post unless I have something substantial to add to the conversation).

I gotta tell you, I'm one of the oldest members that still posts on BSR. You guys are really confused that whole board, and the bands associated. Even I admit that that entire board is pretty gay now. However, you tend to all associate waaf and baystate rock. Carm hosts baystate rock on aaf, a show all about ANY kinds of local music. Hell, any of you guys sends her a CD and sends her an email before you play a gig, I guarantee she'll play you guys and plug the show. She's a hot shit, and would do what she does on ANY station. I wouldn't neccesarily associate her with AAF. AAF pushed Godsmack into the limelight. Carm has pushed bands like dinosaur junior, diecast, the mighty mighties, maelstrom, tree, - stuff AAF would never have given a chance to at the time.

There were some damned good bands and people on the BSR board. If you do a search of threads from a year ago that place was so full of drama and hilarious shit, and it was really busy. Now no one ever posts except anonymous douchebags, you guys, first time or new bands, or groupie promotor chicks that book unknown bands in unknown shitholes.
