Yeah, that's what we need, more genocidal racists. At least do a little research before you glorify someone.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Filipinos thought that the Americans were there to help them kick out the Spanish and end 400 years of repression. After fruitless attempts to negotiate, however, the reality of the US intention became clear. The Filipinos were forced to acknowledge that the Americans intended to replace the Spanish as the colonial rulers. In The Philippines Reader, Daniel Schirmer and Stephen Shalom provide first hand accounts of this period. On February 5, 1899 Philippine President Emilio Aguinaldo urged his people to fight in response to the "outbreak of hostilities between the Philippine forces and the American forces of occupation, (which were) unjustly and unexpectedly provoked by the latter.... The constant outrages and taunts, which have caused the misery of the people...and finally the useless conferences and contempt shown the Philippine government prove the premeditated transgression of justice and liberty."

The American reaction was swift and the slaughter by US forces is legendary. Philippine scholar Luziminda Francisco refers to that brutal imperial American war that launched the 20th century as the "first Vietnam War" in which estimates of from 600,000 to a million Filipinos died.

Obviously someone like this committed some horriffic acts as well as useful ones. The ideology of that time was one of imperialism and not easy to assimilate with today.

But when we are met with "genocidal racism" of the Muslim world against us, why not retaliate with the same mentality? I find the General's treatment of the 50 extremist prisoners creatively brutal. How else do you create a deterrent for people who are willing to die (suicide bombing, etc.)?

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Jan 7,2005 10:52am
my thoughts exactly.

toggletoggle post by hanlon666  at Jan 7,2005 11:10am edited Jan 7,2005 11:10am
The "ideology of that time" was not imperialism, many americans spoke out from all sorts of politcal persuasions spoke out aginst the Philippine-American war as well as the "white man's burden" ideology that it stemmed from.

I don't think anyone here supports Islamic terrorism, I am simply saying that perhaps had the US Government not applied the same imperialist ideology during this century perhaps we wouldn't be in this mess, our methods haven't changed maybe its time they should.

As far as a deterrent for fanatics, why not promote a standard of living and education that will give people a reason to live rather than a cause to die for. Religious extremism goes hand in hand with poverty and desperation, much of which we are largely responsible for. Look at Afghanistan or Iran, these were stable countries, Iran was governed by a secular nationalist until he was overthrown by the US government, and Afghanistan was a stable monarchy until the proxy war between the US and the USSR that utterly destroyed it.

toggletoggle post by largefreakatzero at Jan 7,2005 11:15am
Do you mean Iraq, not Iran? And Afghanistan has not been stable for years -- look at the bullshit with the Soviets not that long ago.

And I agree, the "war" in Iraq is a waste of time and American lives.

hanlon is talking about afghanistan US vs USSR as the downfall of that country. it's pretty widely accepted that we fucked up there...
since we armed/trained mujahadin fighters (like a young osama) there.

toggletoggle post by hanlon666  at Jan 7,2005 11:35am
No, Iran. Iraq has been a mess since its creation. Afghanistan was a stable, and relaitively westernized monarchy between 1933-1973 until the US/USSR proxy war that tore the country apart, that is what I was referring to in the last paragraph of my previous topic.

toggletoggle post by hanlon666  at Jan 7,2005 11:57am
It is creative and sort of bad ass in a that's cool on a message board type of way, like it would be cool if Rambo did it or something, but the idea that the US military is probably only a step or two away from actually employing the idea, and that the citizenry will accept in is a little scary to me.

On the one hand it's fucked up, on the other, as a tactic of war, in a historical light, it can be admired for its effectiveness. I doubt the Muslims involved had much in common ideologically with Al Qaeda though.

Jack Pershing is pretty much the coolest person to have ever lived. Where was the ACLU to tell him that he was using cruel and unusual punishment on them innocent arabs as he blatently violated their civil right to worship as they please? Where was the fat Teddy K's to say that those muslims were mistreated and detained without being accused of anything. This shit makes Abu Garib and Club Gitmo look like a fuckin' luxury resort. If there wasn;t so much gayness and sympathy for our enemy in this country, something like this might be able to become a plausible option.

You are fucking retarded if you don't see outing a NOC agent (non-offical cover) as anything less than an act of treason. It goes waaay beyond just the simple outing of Valerie Plame. This fucks with the whole system of CIA operative.
These people devote their entire lives to the CIA. Building and maintaining a cover identity in order to gain intel. They live their lives 24/7 pretending to be someone they're not. And NOCs are our mpst effective way to fight terrorism.

What do you think is going to happen when all the NOCs currently out in the field realize that they can't trust the White House to keep their identities secret? How do you think this will effect future recruiting efforts? Why would someone devote their entire life to something that can just be thrown away on the whim of a viscious and incompetent president/vice president.

I don't have time to go into more detail right now, but try thinking about a little harder.

You obviously lack reading comprehension skills. I didn't say it wasn't treasonous. What's worse though? 'Dropping' the name of a non covert operative or Al Whore lying to a crown at a speech in Saudi Arabia saying that Arab-Americans had been "indiscriminately rounded up" and held in "unforgivable" conditions.

If you think making someone strip naked and put panties on their head while being barked at by a dog is torture, your a pussy. Secondly, the U.S. government has had the authority to WIRETAP ANY MOTHERFUCKING PERSON THEY GODDAMN PLEASE IF THEY ARE BELIEVED TO BE INVOLVED IN ORGANIZED CRIME. Why do you oppose them wiretapping suspected Al-Qaeda terrorists?? If they can 'illegally' wiretap to catch the Whitey bulgers of the world (in which they do 'illegally wiretap' them to bring indictments) why is there so much resistance to wiretapping suspected terrorists?
You must think you are one pretty fucking important person if you think for one minute that the government is taking its time to check out what BobNOMAAMRooney is up to.

I do not think that the government is using our time to watch me, but when citizens give governments free reign to fight abstract concepts the government will always abuse that power. It is the citizens job to police the government and make elected officials work for us, not to shut up and cheer on the war effort.

If you think that we should not question the government we elected and pay for you are a complete pussy, cowed into believing that your government cares enough to protect you from scary foreigners. Do you still sleep with a nighlight? (SEE WHAT I DID THAR? QUESTIONED YUR MANHOOD TO SHOW THAT I AM NOT A PUSSY LIBERAL OMZGGZ I AM WINNING AT THE INTERNETZ)

I wish I had a witty retort about your Whitey Bulger line with his prison address like I had with Ramzi Yousef's but it turns out all the wiretapping that was done legally with a warrant failed to bring him to justice.

I mean, HAHAHAHA I DERAILED THIS THREAD TAKE THAT YOU FAGGOT CONSERVATIVE PANSIES!

Besides you missed the question entirely: Aside from blind political allegiance what makes you guys think this administration will not or is not abusing its powers in wiretapping and torturing innocent people?

Not, IS PUTTING PANTIES ON ARABS HEADS TORTURE? Not, IS WIRETAPPING AL QAEDA COOL OR NOT?

Aside from blind political allegiance what makes you guys think this administration will not or is not abusing its powers in wiretapping and torturing innocent people?
