thanks to everyone who played/came/bought me beer/gave me presents
unfortunately O'Briens decided to adopt an extemely gay policy of making all the under 21 kids who were IN bands wait outside, so my brother, Ben from Hirudinea and all of Cryptic Warning were left standing in the cold before and after they played. fuck...i'm still drunk |

What type of nazi bullshit is this? |
yea instead of having any semblance of a good time while watching bands, my night consisted of setting up, playing, breaking down, loading the van, an standing outside for 6 hours |
yeah, i was pissing off the owner and door guy because i wouldn't shut up about their stupid new policy. we have played there so many fucking times and they finally decide to be assholes about it. i hate that door guy. i wish paul from cnv kicked his ass at the abazagorath show a few months ago.
anyway, it was a good show. i had a lot of fun other than the new rule. i was arguing with the manager during most of abhorred, so i only got to really see the last two slayer songs. it was cool. wish i could have seen more.
cryptic warning was good thrash metal. i think the bass is a little "funky" sounding, but other than that they sounded good. maybe a little distortion would help on the bass. very tight band.
the old men was awesome. too bad this was the first and last show. scumy punk/metal. their drummer looked really fucking old haha. my favorite of the night.
i thought we (hirudinea) played a good set. it was a good show to go out with. we won't be playing any more shows until the hirudinea/watchmaker split cd is out.
thanks to jon for having us, all the bands, carina, old friends, and everyone that went. good drunken crowd. |
I got into an argument with the manager guy before the show even started, I am going to email Shred right now about that bullshit. |
ok pics are uploading now..
we were out all day just got in a little while ago
NOTE:
1~Hirudinea pics have a lot of crowd shots..so look for yourself |
Mike ... what is your email so i can send you the pics i took of you and your gf |
i love this pic |
carina, shoot me the pics at ninkaszi187@yahoo.com
thanks for taking them. |
haha! the hirudinea pics came out great! very fucking metal. we are going to have to use some of those for our thrash collage thats going to be in the hirudinea/watchmaker split. thanks carina. |
Cool pics, I'll probably have mine back in a week and scanned sometime next year, ha!
Killer show... Missed ABHORRED dammit, came in during CRYPTIC WARNING's first song. The first 2 songs didn't do much for me, but by the 3rd they started to Thrash it up a bit. A boost in the guitars (2nd guitarist or just mixing up the guitars above the bass and drums )and cooler vocals would help a lot... I was expecting something more raw and Thrashy in the vein of early EXODUS and DARK ANGEL based on the mp3s I had heard - live it came across more like CORONER or later DARK ANGEL. Better vocals would make this band really something to reckon with.
THE OLD MEN were awesome. I thought it was gonna be some straight up Punk Rock, so the Metal/Punk/Hardcore attack was a good surprise. Really fun, energetic set, they better keep playing shows.
HIRUDINEA was really tight and had one of their better sets.
O'Brien's was being gay about us being on the patio too.... What the fuck??? |
Haha I saw! Greasy as fuck... The sacrifices I make (perfect, handsome long hair) in the name of music!
I like me in this one too hah...
someone just emailed me asking when i would post the pics..
if anyone cannot see them..let me know.. |
looking at these pictures is making me pissed off again at the fact that i couldnt stay.
fuck that eddie munster looking door guy in his vertically impaired asshole |
yeah i completely forgot they closed the patio. i was so mad, i took it out on jeff's guitar during my kick ass solo...
hopefully it won't always be that strict |
This show was fun, I think the brownies helped...but it doesn't seem like you guys liked them that much.
Abhorred kicked ass, as usual. I really enjoyed their set and it seems that the rest of the crowd did as weel, they got a really good response. I couldn't care less about 2 Slayer cover songs in a row though...
Cryptic Warning were good but they set up too fast and there was barely anytime between them and Abhorred (it seems like it anyway), so I didn't pay much attention at the beginning of their set. I also thought the bass sounded "weird", I liked them better last time I saw them at the Chopping Block.
John and Jeff...I was too busy giving cookies and getting drinks, I just caught that Saint Vitus song, took me a while to figure out why I knew that song so well...
The Old Men fucking kicked ass, I felt like 12 years younger, it was really refreshing, straight up punk, no bullshit you get anything from Discharge, GBH, The Exploited, a tiny bit of Ramones, Crass and Conflict...defenitely a big UK punk influence, I loved it. Jeff told me that they were going to play shows. I hope he's not full of shit.
Hirudnea, a long time since I haven't seen them and man I fucking enjoyed it. Getting better and better. We need a recording. I think the only thing I have from them is a demo...
I now have to think twice about bringing Troll with me anywhere...he kept on going at home too for a while, then I decided to go to bed. I hoped I had a lock in my bedroom (j/k), he was stubbling in the kitchen for hours, being a troll.
troll and the brownies are what kept me from going insane outside |
brownies AND cookies? i saw/ate neither |
she told me she had cookies, but then gave me a brownie, so maybe she just thinks brownies and cookies are the same thing |
i still didn't see either =(
sniff |
They were brownies...no cookies. I kept saying cookies cause that's usually what I make. Carina, you'll have some for your birthday ;)
Dont you worry. |
woooooooooooooooooooooo
=) |
i almost forget we share the same birthday
=) |
I will never forget...that's asking for celebration, Dwyer's birthday is the day after. |
I forgot for a bit (must have been the beers), thanks again for the brownie Anne! I'm sure it helped quite a bit, but with all the beer, Capt. Morgan's and weed I was smoking, it's hard to tell!
Troll is definitely a character haha... I didn't even have a conversation with him but every time I'd walk by he'd give me a big drunken metal grin. I think he was beyond forming sentences by that point anyway. |
We had a good time at this show, although O'Brien's policy about age limits was annoying.
Unfortunately we were kicked out after our set, so we didn't see the Old Men or Hirudinea but...
Abhorred were excellent. They have great energy on stage and I loved alot of the newer material I don't think I've heard before.
Cryptic Warning: I didn't feel too good about our set, actually. We should have taken the time to actually do a soundcheck before we started playing because the bass was way too loud for the first two songs and I had no idea until the sound guy came over and tapped me. Also, it was my first time gigging with that bass and I didnt take the time to eq it properly. My tone last night would have been more appropriate for more laid back music like hip-hop or reggae but sounded weird with fast thrash metal.
Oh well...
Anyways, thanks to Joe for setting up the show and to John for asking us to play. Also, thanks to Carina for the awesome pics. Those are some of the best ones of us I've ever seen. |
GREAT SHOW THE OTHER NIGHT. I WAS SURPRISED HOW MANY PEOPLE LIKED THE OLD MEN. WASN'T SURE HOW IT WOULD GO OVER. WE WILL COME OUT OF RETIREMENT TO PLAY MORE SHOWS. "HELLBENT FOR RETIREMENT" WHO THE HELL EVER SAID THAT? HAHA! |
I bet if this show was not a metal show the age thing wouldn't have been a problem, that guy is a total fucking dick. If that was really the law, which it is not, then all the other 21+ clubs would have been enforcing it for years.
If a club is 21+, performers and people working the show in some capacity (video taping, reviewing, photographing) who are under 21 are allowed to be inside. I know for a fact that this is how it works, that guy at O'Brien's was just being a dickhead, probably mad that he had to work a metal show. Maybe someone should inform him that the only reason he has a fucking job is because metal shows at Obriens do so well. |
BY THE WAY, IF ANYONE CAN THINK OF A BETTER NAME THAN THE OLD MEN PLEASE LET ME KNOW. IT'S KIND OF FUNNY, BUT IT KIND OF SUCKS. |
What about THE DOUCHEKINGS? |
What about "NAKED OLD MEN" |
I KNEW I SHOULDN'T HAVE ASKED FOR YOUR HELP. |
now at least i know who king noosebomb is |

Its definitely not a law. The law is 21plus unless you're working there, then its 18, by playing in a band at a venue, is that not working there? |

THE ONE, THE ONLY.
HOW DO LIKE THE RECORDING? |
IT'S FUCKING DEADLY OF COURSE! |
I WISH I KNEW WHAT ALL THIS WALRUS TALK WAS ABOUT |
I went and caught Abhorred and Cryptic Warning.
Abhorred was damn good. They sounded like they were about to fly off the tracks at any minute. They were a good mishmash of all sorts of genres. They need lead boosts and tube amps though.
Cryptic was good. During some parts of some songs my jaw actually slowly dropped. Onstage mixing is key though. On defyunlearn the picture of me taking notes is during one of Dave's solos. |
IN DUE TIME YOU SHALL ALL FEEL THE WRATH OF THE MIGHTY WALRUS. |
I DONT KNOW IF I SHOULD BE EXCITED OR SCARED |
