as for "new" black metal:
naglfar, old man's child, anaal nathrakh are pretty cool.

some of the classics:
emperor, burzum, and mayhem are all good choices.

i have some friends who like more of this stuff than i. i'm probably just saying what the majority of people will say.

i know alot of the bigger bands, never really liked old man's child, some of their earlier recordings were okay.

emperor is the only black metal band i still listen to a lot.

Check out Night Conquers Day - The First Snowfall, it is an awsome CD, especially to get laid to, When I first bought it and listened to it I thought it was ok to good, but it quickly grew on me to the point where I had to listen to at least one song off it every day. They are a two man band from upstate New York.

One lesser known black metal band that I'm a fan of is Nokturnal Mortum

I need to get some grand belial's key.
everyone talks such good things about them.
they were just "ok" live.

Lucifugum has some members from Nokturnal Mortum and sounds pretty similar.

witchery sux ass... but black witchery does not.

I used to like WITCHERY, but the charm wore off after awhile. I definitely wouldn't call them a Black Metal band, as their choice of covers on that MCD proved... They did a good job on those though - and those 3 tracks on the MCD were the best originals I heard from them too. I dunno, it's just kinda lacking, and I think Sharlee D'Angelo is sort of a douchebag.

These guys are killer. they put there first ep out on Deepsend Records but they just released a full album on another lable, i forget what lable it is but these guys rule. two awesome instrumentals, fast as hell drum blasts, sick guitar work, all around just pure fucking evil. Rumor has it that the singer from Marduk is supposed to join up with them.

Satanic Warmaster is awesome.
If you need 3 bands that set the ground work for black metal I'd say stick with Burzum, Darkthrone, and Immortal. Bathory is a very important band as well.

Have you heard the German thrash band called Witchburner? They're awesome!

I have 3 witchery CD's, I just can't get into them. I gave them a good shot, and just didn't like them. Me Joe and someone else saw them live and we were pissing off alot of people with that whole WWWIIIIIIIIIIIITTTTCCCCCCCCHHHHHHHHHHHEEEEEEEERRRRRRRRRYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!
thing, the best part was slowly raising the 3rd finger of both hands in a quavery motion as you said it, each person hesitating a second before saying it to give it a dynamic, 3D effect.

Someone mentioned Immortal, They kicked ass live, I would definatly recomend them too.
