o_O |
who knows what it's for since he never told me he was ordering one
i know it's not to scan me, or my bodyparts, at least |
wait dont you have to be some sort of legit of business to have a bar-code scanner? |
bah,
where can i buy one of those gadgets that removes alarm devices from clothing?
o_O |
all my releases since Kevorkian's Angels have barcodes |
hey joe
NO ONE CARES!
O_o |
I do, I hate barcodes, there's one split LP that I absolutely worship: Doom/No Security on Peaceville, each band has one side of the cover for artwork and they put the barcode on the No Security side, it looks so wrong.
I agree it will be more helpfull for the store to have one, but it's way to fucking expensive, so fuck it. |
expensive?
what are you talking about?!?
scanner: $75
barcode printer: $65-$135
then you just plug the $75 USB scaner into a computer. if a CD/lp has a barcode, you are set.
the cost of making a whole db-driven system could be done for about $500 if you know what you are doing and use a web-interface for the scanning.
use apache/php/mysql and there you go.
I'm making something just like that for my radio station. |
the system that i'm going to make will
1) track on-air playlists
2) allow the music dept to scan a cd and enter in the number of checks a release gets
3) send cd info digital to peoples stereos
and more |
i was just being a dick to joe!
i think bar code scanners are amazing!!!! |
I'm betting youve never actually though about it before. |
Yeah there's no room for that shit at the store right now anyway, maybe next year after the tax refund we might get one. The first time we got a quote for it, it was $800 but I'm talking about a POS system (I think that's how it's called)...and there was some story about having to pay for the barcode stickers too...I should probably look into this again. That would simplify the inventory...it's just a bit too fancy for the store I think. |
I thought you had a computer at the store?
plug something in the back and the label printer for $65 is tiny...
when I get it all set up, I'll show you some time.
I'm SUPER SUPER happy about the scanner I got.
you plug it in to the USB port, point it at a bar-code and the number scans onto the screen whereever the cursor is.
printing a bar-code is just printing the some serial # in a particular font. |
yeah but it no longer plays so i haven't been able to watch it |
boo to movies that don't play anymore. i can't get the neurosis dvd to play on my mac in os x. i have to switch to 9 to watch it, so i never watch it anymore. :( |
If you scan the barcode tattoo on the back of my neck it'll come up as a $20 gift certificate to Hot Topic.
-some busted goth chick |
Rev, I think what we really need is a point of sale system and that cost a lot, the barcode isn't necessary unless we get the POS... |
ooohh.. see, I could write all that stuff myself.
I'm just using it for inventorying. |

And is this font,by any chance, Avenir 95?
nope, barcode39 is what I'm using, I think
there are about 20 different barcode fonts...
Code 39, UPC-A, UPC-E, Code 128, EAN-13/8, EAN 128, Interleaved 2 of 5, Codabar, ABC Codabar, Code 32, MSI, UK
Plessey, IATA 2 of 5, Code 2 of 5 (China Postal Code), Industrial 2 of 5, Matrix 2 of 5, Code 93, Code 11, UCC128, ISBN,
ISSN.
I might actually develop and deploy a CD db in 2 radio stations. |
this should become a kentucky fried movie thread. my favorite part is when the colonel kills all those kentucky bastards. |
nope, fist full of yen
or catholic highschool girls in trouble. |
actually, i lied. the only part of kentucky fried movie i have ever seen is the scene with the white guy who goes into a black neighborhood, yells "niggers!", then runs away. i think it is kentucky fried movie. am i mistaken? |
I liked whenever an anchor took an arrow. |
Are you printing new barcodes? Because most record labels punch the barcode before they send a CD to someone... |
