yeah, the snare is the only thing that bugs me too. I'm not gonna fault you or Felipe for it though, snare is by far the hardest part of the drumkit to get to sound good, especially due to the low headroom preamps that most of us DIY engineers are stuck using. From listening to this and the Scaphism demo I get the impression that your snare is not the easiest to record. It's crushing as shit live and has sounded weak and pingy on recordings. My theory is that using the old standby of a 57 on the top head isn't giving the sound of the drum enough time to develop into the crushing Alex snare that we know and love, and mainly picking up the sound of just the head and not the resonance of the shell. Something I would try in the future is putting a mic on the shell of the snare, 2-4 inches off the drum halfway between the top and the bottom. Metal snares usually react a lot better when miked that way. Also, if you have access to a room with hardwood floors that really helps too, even if it means putting down a sheet of plywood and putting the drums on top the difference is night and day. Hope that helps, or you can disregard it all together haha
