And i would assume that that's Darren's biggest weak point.
Cesca's not really a session player. Sessions indicate, usually, that a label or management has booked an artist and is bringing in players to play parts that have already been written and arranged. And it's one of the toughest things in the world to break into, because studios love to just keep going back to the same guys that get results over and over and over. It's how guys like Greg Bissonette have remained on hit records year after year. Josh Freese is another example. Cesca is more of a drummer for hire. He's not being brought in by studios or labels, he's actually renting himself out to bands to do exactly what it is he is good at doing. While I doubt he's unable to read a staff and play exactly what's written (it's actually the way he writes his own parts and music) I don't think that's something he'll ever pursue. He seems happy doing the technical death metal drummer for hire thing. While there's probably a LOT more money in session work, he'd stick out a lot less doing top 40 or such, and would find himself not as in-demand. Oddly, he also HATES jazz, and doesn't seem to care for rock, rap, or top 40. I don't think he'd consider himself a "session drummer" in that sense.
