It will grow on you. Remember, you are also in a different place now than you were when you heard Focus. It's not just the band that changes over that span of time. Compositionally Traced in Air is way more cohesive than Focus. A lot of the riffs on Focus were at odds with each other. You mention textures, which is my absolute favorite song by Cynic. I love it. However, there is nothing else like it on that album. On the opposite end, there is nothing else as heavy as Urubolic Forms on any of their albums. The whole disk is all over the place. Add to that the crappy sound (even on the remaster - shrill guitar is shrill) and it isn't nearly the presentation or experience of TIA. Remember, pot and headphones!
