Frankly Speaking: Who Will Play Frank? Posted on Thursday May 14, 2009 at 11:01 AM 1 | Martin Scorsese will direct the first feature film biopic about the life of Frank Sinatra. Now comes the toughest part – finding someone to portray the Chairman of the Board. The film title is simply “Sinatra,” and Hollywood execs promise it will be as unique as the man himself in its portrayal of one of the greatest voices in the history of popular music. “It's not a cradle-to-the-grave traditional portrait of the consecutive events in a man's life," said Mandalay Pictures President Cathy Shulman. “Instead it's more of a collage and, in many ways, it will feel like an album itself. It's a collection of various moments and impressions in his life and together we hope they'll tell the full story and present full themes.” Shulman also said it took two years to secure the rights to the life and music of Ol’ Blue Eyes. Warner Music Group and the Sinatra estate are partners on the flick. This won’t be the first time Scorsese has crossed paths with the Sinatra legacy. The director’s 2004 biopic of Howard Hughes included the billionaire’s relationship with actress Ava Gardner, Sinatra’s second wife from 1951 through 1957. “My father had great admiration for the talent of the people he chose to work with, and the talented people who worked with my father had great admiration for him,” daughter Tina Sinatra said in a statement. “It is personally pleasing to me that this paradigm continues with Marty Scorsese at the helm of the Sinatra film.” But who will play Frank? Who will play the singer/actor/brawler/artist/businessman/philanthropist; the man often acclaimed as the greatest entertainer of the 20th century? That’s where you come in. Who do you think is the perfect choice to play the title role in “Sinatra?” Let that question churn in your brain as you watch the embedded video. Then drop your two cents below in the comment thread below.
