I fit a 6-piece set in 2 (large) boxes this way. BUY LOTS OF INSURANCE. IT IS CHEAP. The first time I shipped my set UPS fucked up the boxes. It killed one of bass drum rims - it looked much worse than it was (the actual drums were fine) but I got full insurance $$$ back from them and bought a whole second kit with it. I could have bought twice as much insurance and gotten twice as much back.
