yes, the mighty wargasm appeared once again at the middle east to lay waste to the metal masses who turned out in their finest ripped denim and leather. for those of you who don't know, wargasm was the band that, goddammit, should've been been huge. but bad business dealings and the like erected a wall of misfortune which proved to be too high for even these warriors to scale (um, what?). they released three albums and one ep during their time together in the late 80's/early 90's, and did a comeback in 2004, which was released as a live dvd last night. last night's show in turn was recorded for a future live album.
they played everything off of the classic "why play around?" album, including, yes, "le cou cou". a couple of covers were thrown in by the likes of motorhead and venom, with rich moving to drums, barry to bass, and bob to guitar for one tune. there were also some other gems tossed into the set, including a facemeltingly awesome "enemy mine" off of the criminally overlooked "ugly" album.
let me tell you something right now. rich spillberg plays guitar so goddamned fast that i half expected a police officer to appear onstage and write him up for speeding. seriously, this dude just shreds, and everything is tighter than a virgin nun's asshole. no clams here, no sir. and everyone basically sang/shouted along to every fucking word, which made bob mayo's job that much easier. and of course barry spillberg just powered the whole thing along at light speed. completely inhuman. unbelievable. fucking knee deep in blood, my friends. knee fucking deep in motherfucking blood.
