That's just stupid and unprofessional. My brother in law works in the new casting biz and has told me stories about shit like this. These people are usually doing these little bits on a set schedule. Someone watching a clock waves their arm at them and they say their lines. They have to make sure they can complete it within a certain time restriction. When they're done, the dudes in the editing booth or something are supposed to click over to the next segment and kill the cameras and mics. Sometimes things get off schedule though and more is recorded than what is supposed to be. So when that happens, newscasters sometimes start talking to people on the set when the cameras are SUPPOSED to stop rolling, but end up going live. This is stupid and irresponsible though. According to my bro in law, newscasters are supposed to know that things can fuck up and they can be on camera even after they're supposed to be done. For that reason, the rule is always to refrain from doing anything in front of the camera that you wouldn't want going live, even if the camera isn't supposed to be recording. On 9-11 a dude at my brother in law's station nailed a spot he was supposed to do about 9-11 leading into a commercial. When he nailed it, he was all excited and starting doing a dance. Whoopsies, they didn't stop recording. What aired was some blurb about hordes of people dead and then some guy in a tie dancing. He was fired.
