I think there is more action and things going on in the hobbit then in all of the lord of the rings books Fair enough. The cartoon adaptation managed to make a feature-length out of the book, and still left plenty of stuff out - I don't see why they couldn't make two if they left everything in. (Although it'll break my heart to see The Hobbit without that "The greeeeeeeeateeeeeest adventuuuuuuuure" song.)
