It's called air. The have air breaks, not the pad and roater or drum systems that are typically found in cars. Even if he did whack his breaks and miraculously not jackknife and smash into other people's cars, that guy would need at least about 100 feet to slow down to a stop for every 40 or so mph he was traveling.
