It was definitely good to see so many people at the show. My only complaint was that Ralph's had the order wrong on their myspace page, and I know at least 15-20 people who came just to see Nocturnum but missed them because they didn't know they were playing first. Umm... I guess I will be the first to do this, and I'm hoping it will encourage other people to give some feedback as well. Nocturnum: They were having numerous sound issues, but I think they still did a great job. The only reason why they had any screw-ups was because the sound guy must have changed the levels on the monitors after they did their sound check, and they could not hear themselves at all. I've heard them sound much better than they did, but I think their music is so original and well-written that it speaks for itself in spite of any sound issues. Besides, being the first band sucks anyway. You always get the crappiest sound, and the crowd isn't drunk enough to flip out to your music yet. Sacreligion: I think the sound guy had finally finished fine-tuning everything at this point. I don't know what it sounded like on stage, but the sound was pretty good from the crowd. For the style of music they play, Sacreligion is really good, but it's not really the kind of metal I'm into... just a matter of personal taste. I really enjoyed the Type O cover, though. The second they started playing "Gravitational Constant", I went completely ape shit. 18 Wheels of Justice: I can't give them much of a review because I spent most of their set walking around Ralph's searching for a couple of drunk people who wandered off. I made amends by hooking up a couple of the band members with some Jaegermeister, though. Sorry guys. :( I'll catch you another time. Kultur: Kultur is another band that plays a style of metal that really isn't what I'm into. For what they do, though, they do it well. The whole crowd was freaking out, and there was a brutal pit. Face Full of Shotgun: They sounded even better at this show than they did when I saw them at Metal Thursday. The sound guy did a better job this time, and I was more able to hear all of Sam's sick guitar solos. Their music is very complex. Now that I've seen them quite a few times, I'm finally more able to identify how all of the parts fit together. It sort of reminds me of when I first bought Emperor's "Anthems to the Welkin at Dusk", and even though I loved it, I couldn't listen to it for very long because the complexity of it made my head hurt. It took me a couple of years to fully understand and appreciate all of the nuances of that album. Face Full of Shotgun has the same effect on me.
