just about anytime I'm in public, I manage to encounter people I hate. the plant-rot bookclub meeting you just described, for example.

the problem is just hearing the shit that they talk about it. it's beyond asinine. Old people who are having conversations about whether or not they should worry about the cholesterol from the butter on the popcorn they just ate. 14 year old girls chattering about bands that I hate. Yuppies talking about how cheap the new hyundai is. it's all completely asinine. they're all just going to die anyway. No matter what they do with their lives. somehow they choose to spend their lives talking with other idiots about shit that won't matter five minutes after they die, and pretty much doesn't matter now.

the same people that talk about all that stuff like to harass me when i'm at work. i work for a 3rd party merchandising company that maintains live goods for a shitload of stores, including a large percentage of the north east's home depots. so my job is to go to select home depot stores and take care of plants. i am legally restricted from doing any work outside of my duties, and people don't seem to understand that.

for example, some guy needed 10 60 lb. bags of stone. i am fully capable of doing it, but told him that he'd have to find a home depot associate. he tried arguing with me, told me that i'm good for nothing and that he was going to lowe's. why the fuck would i care? home depot doesn't sign my paychecks, and even if they did, i'd still get paid. some other guy followed me around for about 20 minutes trying to find out where he could get some random plant that my company doesn't deal with. after telling him countless times that i only deal with certain types of plants, he told me i was rude and wanted to talk with my manager. so i just told him that i was the manager and that he was rude for not listening to what the manager had to say. i then banned him from the store. if home depot found that out, i'd never be allowed there again, bwwahahaha
