What's wrong with combo amps? I understand that a Fender 50 watt combo that cost $129 at GitCenter or something is out of the question, but there are plenty of LOUD and very nice higher-end combo amps out there. Plus they're easier to carry.

um, metal band + loud = no combo amps. Sure, there are some that are loud, but they don't move as much air as a 4x12 cab. I haven't put this much money into my equipment for some dood with a crate 2x12 combo to be playing shows with us. If the person fit well enough, I would consider letting them use one of my cabs and backup head. Otherwise seeing one dude with a combo amp on stage just doesn't seem right to me especially since most of the shows we play our guitars are NOT miced.

oh youre talking about GUITAR amps. I thought you were talking about bass. There are plenty of bass combos (4x10, 1x15, even 2x10) that are plenty loud for a metal band, just as loud as their head-cab-separate counterparts.

hehe misunderstood ya
