dneirflrigruoydeliani said:
look who studies it, it is mentally disabled people, and washed up hippies, americans use it as a reason to be lazy, and it is a lazy person reliegion. In Buddhism they say it isnt a religion "its a way of life" but yet they pray to Buddha??? hmmmmmm
I figured I'd bring this thread back from the dead just to make a comment to this one above. In another part of the thread you say you did all this and that, have gone to temple and talked with lamas and monks, etc.. yet you say people pray to the Buddha? Buddhists do not pray to the Buddha, as the Buddha was nothing more than a man who reached enlightenment and left behind his teachings for others to do as they wish to reach wherever they wanted to go. Like other religions that think praying to a God will nullify all the bad stuff we do, Buddhists do not do this. And yes it is a way of life, not a religion. Religions have unproven limitations. Buddhism is fact/science based and if anything in the "religion" is questioned it is tested. If it proven to be wrong than that part changes to exemplify that. I have yet to meet a "disable" person who practices Buddhism, but I'm sure there are. As far as saying Americans practice it because they are lazy is ridiculous too. Many Buddhists take their personal time to go out and do things that effect people's lives in a positive way. Whether it being helping out at a soup kitchen, banging nails for Habitat For Humanity, donating things they no longer need, etc.. Many American monks go to prisons to speek with prisoners and try to make their lives better, or go to juvenile halls and talk with the kids, many are at hospitals in case their is a Buddhist admitted they can have someone to talk with in time of need. But that's just my take on that above post. Sorry for the rant, thank you drive through.
